Independent: can stand by itself and make grammatical sense Dependent: cannot stand by itself and has to be attached to an independent clause in order for it to make sense, it will sound like a fragmented sentence

2 simple sentences connected by a coordinating conjunction (two IC connected by a coordinating conjunction)
