While reviewing the phases of wound healing, the students note that the first cells to arrive after the injury are the:

neutrophils -The cellular phase of inflammation follows and is evidenced by the migration of phagocytic white blood cells that digest and remove invading organisms, fibrin, extracellular debris, and other foreign matter.
