SAT

(Scholastic Aptitude Test) Globally-recognized college admissions test that covers math, writing, and reading.

PhD

A Doctorate Degree. An advanced degree earned after Master's Degree, specializing in a particular area; may take many years to complete.

Required course

A class that is required for graduation such as English 1.

Personal Graduation Plan (PGP)

Schedule of high school classes that will lead to a particular graduation endorsement.

Sophomore

Second year of high school or college.

Vocational or trade school

Secondary or post secondary institution that offers instruction and practical introductory experience, such as mechanics, carpentry, plumbing, and construction.

Tuition

The cost to attend the school.

Program of study

Area to be studied, such as foreign language, education, pre-law, etc.

Transcript

A permanent record of all the classes you take and grades you earn while in high school or college.

Technical school

A post-secondary institution that trains people in a variety of skills, including manual trades, health care, computer technology, etc.

Master's Degree

An advanced degree earned after Bachelor's Degree, specializing in a particular area; usually takes 1 to 5 years (2 years average).

Post-secondary institution

College, university, trade, or vocational school beyond high school.

Senior

Fourth year of high school or college.

Prerequisite

In scheduling, a class that you have to take before you can register to take another.

Semester

One half of a school year. Each semester stands alone and is worth 1/2 credit in high school.
