3 General functions of Self-Presentation
No, they are not the same, but both constructs are highly related to each other. Impression management refers to how one tries to control the impressions others form on them. Under impression management is self-presentation, because this is a way of regulating the said impressions of others.
Are the constructs "impression management" and self presentation" the same? Why or why not?
Etiquette is not a new construct for all of us. Many know what to do Less know why we do them Even less actually do them Group work (30 minutes) Making and keeping appointments Conducting a formal interview Sending and receiving e-mails

Five common self-presentational strategies
self presentation as a strategy to self management Impression occurs as the first and quick stage in the decision-making process (Mote, Vanags, Geipele and Bowen, 2016) Refers to how individuals attempt to control the impressions others form of them
Impression Management
Motivational factor mo why you present yourself in a specific way. Familiarity with audience (expression na, let your hair down) First day of work, ayos na ayos ka to make a good impression pero after 2-3 years, comfortable ka na at di ka na nagsusuklay **The impressions we create depends on our motivation.
Motivational Factors
People often seek to convince others that they possess positive qualities. For the most part, these attempts genuinely reflect the way people privately think about themselves, rather than representing insincere attempts to deceive or mislead.
Ponder on this:
Any behavior that is intended to create, modify or maintain an impression of ourselves in the minds of others. Self Presentation falls under impression construction
Self-Presentation
Involves a balance between beneficiality and believability Accountability strongly influences believability. There is no one effective strategy for self-presentation. It depends on what you believe in, your resources, etc. It is the way of presenting oneself in the most beneficial way possible for the situation.
Successful self-presentation
You dress up for a job interview for them to think you are desirable. For you to get the social reward of being hired. Also, pag pupunta kang wake tas you don't wear bright colors kasi baka isipin nila masaya ka na may namatay.
To gain material and social rewards (or avoid material and social punishments)
Have your questions ready Orient them about what will happen (including time) Ask permission if you want to audio- or video-record the session Maintain meaningful and appropriate eye contact Use a professional tone in asking questions Ask permission to take down notes Listen actively Greet the interviewee by name and ask how he/she prefers to be addressed Provide a small token of gratitude Arrive ahead of time Lean a bit forward Maintain an open posture Sit at right angles Inform the interviewee how the information gathered will be used Allow the interviewee to ask questions Tell them what happens after the interview (will there be a follow-up?) Offer a beverage (at least)
etiquette for conducting a formal interview
Provide information such as agenda, meeting place, etc Review your calendar and check for conflicts before scheduling or confirming to an appointment Arrive ahead of time Call or contact the other person and apologize if you need to re-schedule an appointment. Adjust to the schedule of the person you are meeting (if you requested the appointment) as possible Call as soon as possible if you can't make the appointment on time. Give the other person the opportunity to let you know his/her availability when you reschedule Tell if you are unavailable rather than ignoring the appointment call. Prepare a reminder (or alarm) for the appointment Call to reschedule rather than rely on texting or email. Reply to appointments or invitations as soon as possible. Use descriptive (specific) titles when sending calendar invitations Test-run technology and internet connection before the actual video conference Prepare back-up technology or alternative platforms in case technology fails during the meeting
etiquette for making and keeping appointments
Create a clear subject line (and think about how it can be searched / retrieved easily at a later time) Acknowledge the receipt of email Use professional salutations Use professional tone rather than humor Send concise but clear and specific emails Always include a signature. Send official transactions during operating hours, as much as possible Respond in a timely fashion Use sentence case (capitalize first letter of the first word in a sentence and proper nouns) Maintain a positive tone in your email (even if you are angry) Use proper terminal punctuation Subject line must match them message Use proper salutation punctuation. If it's a formal email, use a colon. If it's a relatively casual email, use a comma. If you're in close terms, you can use a dash. Indicate if you have an attachment Proofread your message before sending Save the use of emojis for chat communication Use readable font face and size Talk about one subject per email only Use question and exclamation marks sparingly Save sarcasm for phone or face-to-face communication Spell out and use acronyms sparingly Provide a warning when sending large attachments Create your message as a stand-alone note, even if it is in response to a chain of emails Before you "reply all", check who the recipients are When sending links, create hyperlinks or insert a shortened URL instead of copy+pasting a very long link When sending an email to a large mailing list, use BCC When forwarding a long email thread, summarize what's been discussed below so the recipient knows exactly what you want from them For out-of-office replies, include how long you'll be unavailable and person to contact for urgent matters Explain why you forward (why you think the recipient will find interesting what you share) For highly personal or confidential information, resort to phone or face-to-face communication rather than email Use priority flags with discretion (example: "urgent", "important", "asap") Compress files before sending them via email When in doubt, send plain text email instead of rich HTML
etiquette for sending and receiving emails
Doctors wearing white coat, steth Student wearing shirt and shorts but also wears an ID ay papasukin ng guard Flight attendants ng PAL- very crisp ang attire and always pleasing at maganda istura. Always wearing make-up. Always smiling. They want to give you the impression of High Quality service, being approachable and willing to help. Impression that a hospital based PT (nakabelt, tuck in, may collar) give vs that of in the pediatric (nakatshirt, mas approachable tignan) setting. Why pants and not skirt? easier to move around Impression of fitness and mobility (e.g. ahh kaya niya akong icatch if ever I slip)
to construct identity
If you're in a conference Kung self presentation ko ay tahimik lang, sit in one corner, use phone all the time (impression: i am fine here) compared to someone whos going around chika chika sa di kakilala (impression: going around, open to interaction/ negative impression: feeling close).
