Attribution
An assumption or belief about why people do things
Prejudice
Attitude that leads to evaluate members of a group negatively, even though they have never met them
Social Perception
the study of how we form impressions of and make inferences about other people
Attitudes
Enduring behavioral and cognitive tendencies expressed by people evaluating particular nouns with favor or disfavor. They're learned and can change, but not easily
Social influence
Focuses on the the ways in which people alter the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors of others
Triangular Model
Model of love proposed by Sternberg: Contains three components: intimacy, passion, and commitment
Intimacy
Refers to a couple's closeness, their mutual concern and sharing of feelings and resources
Passion
Refers to romance and sexual feelings
Social Psychology
Study of nature and causes of behavior and mental processes in social situations
Social Facilitation
The process by which performance is enhanced when group members engage in similar behavior
Actor-observer effect
The tendency to attribute other people's behavior to dispositional factors and our own behavior to situational influences
Commitment
To enhance and maintain the relationship
The nature of the message, forewarning, fear appeal, the message communicator
What causes something to be persuasive?
