William James (functionalism)
Considered the father of psychology in America, he wrote the first psychology textbook, "The principles of psychology ". He believed that a desire to survive drives behavior. (functionalism) is information is processed through a stream to create behaviors that support survival.
Wilhelm Wundt (1832-1920) - structuralism
German physiologist who wanted to learn more about the connection between the mind and behavior. The goal of the structuralist approach was to define the essential elements of human experience in a systematic way through introspection. Wundts efforts to study the human mind and behavior in a systematic way were credited with establishing modern psychology as a separate field of study.
Dualism
The 17th century philosophy, the view that 2 substances are mutually exclusive. it attempted to separate any link between the mind and body
neuropsychology
The study of the function and structure of the brain as it relates to behavior
Phrenology
