Plessy v. Ferguson made segregation effective. This is how it maintained a fair yet strict rule. Every public space was divided. Parks, drinking fountains, libraries, bathrooms, restaurants, movie theaters, buses, etc. are a few examples. Jim Crow laws, black codes, de jure segregation, white primaries, and racial zoning were the legislation that were utilized to impose segregation, though. In the South, Jim Crow laws mandated segregated facilities for whites and blacks. De jure segregation established legal requirements for racial segregation. Black people's rights to own property, conduct business, purchase and lease land, and move around freely in public places were all restricted by black codes. Only white people are allowed to vote thanks to decisions made by white primary. Finally, racial zoning prevents any racial and economic integration, reduces a region's overall housing supply, and drives up housing costs.

Also, a lot of individuals were entering white collar occupations as a result of the readily available education. This is also due to the fact that children were made to attend school. Finally, many of the inhabitants were migrating from the southern, or "sunbelt," portion of the United States. This is a result of the fierce competition for employment, particularly among blue-collar employees. Moving was affordable. And because the interstate highway system connects to other states, families were able to relocate there.
