Do non-Catholics make the Sign of the Cross?
-A non-Catholic is allowed to do anything that Catholics do -They can make the sign of the cross, and kneel. There are no rules about non-Catholics making the sign of the cross
What is the difference between a priest and a preacher?
-A preacher is someone who preaches, mostly about religion (for any denomination) -A Priest is a person who has been ordained by the Catholic Church -They are qualified and have the authority to perform certain rites -They have to follow the specific rules regarding Priests (can't marry, etc.)
What are the different kinds of leaders in Protestantism?
-Anglican and Episcopal churches still retain the term "priest" for their clergy, but their clergy function as ministers -Protestants don't like the idea of a special group of people called priests. A Mother is a woman priest, and a Father is a man priest
How do different denominations break off from each other?
-Different denominations break off from each other when they don't agree with the Church -They have councils to work out the problems -If they don't come to an agreement then the Church splits.
What does "evangelical" mean?
-Evangelical means "the messenger." It is mainly focusing on the actual person that brings the good news. -Evangelicals are Christians who believe in the "born again" experience in receiving salvation, believe in the authority of the Bible as God's revelation to humanity and have a strong commitment to evangelism or sharing the Christian message.
Are there monastic people in Protestantism?
-Monasticism is truly just a "Catholic thing." There are forms of Lutheran and Anglican monasticism that have nuns and monks, but none of them are as significant as Catholic monasticism.
What is the biggest difference between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism?
-One main difference between the two religions, is over the office and authority of the Pope. Catholicism believes that the Pope takes the place of Jesus, as the visible head of the Church. On the other hand, Protestants believe that no human being is infallible and that Christ alone is the Head of the Church. -A second main difference, is that Catholics and Protestants disagree on what it means to be justified before God. To Catholics, justification involves being made righteous and holy. While Protestants recognize that works are important, they believe that you cannot become God-like through your behavior.
How does marriage differ among the denominations?
-Within Christianity, marriage became a "sacrament" only in the early 12th century. -Moreover, not every religious community or Christian denomination considers marriage a sacrament today. For Protestants, there is no protestant view of marriage, each person has their own opinion and that is how it is.

-Yes, some denominations are more strict than others but some are really relaxed. -Catholics can be more strict with their religion than (for example) an Episcopalian

In certain Christian denominations priests are able to be married, such as priests in the Eastern Orthodox Church and Greek orthodox priests, but they must be married before they are ordained. Also, Lutheran priests and Baptist priests can be married.

No, some Christian churches, such as Quakers, do not celebrate communion or baptism but celebrate some different sacraments, and other Churches such as Baptists celebrate them as ordinances not sacraments.

No, there are many different types of Christians such as Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, etc. that do not all share the same holidays. Protestants do not focus on saints as much as Catholics, therefore, they do not celebrate St. Patricks Day or St. Valentine's Day as much.

Do all Christian celebrate Mass? How is Mass different from the other two forms of worship?
Yes, but some Churches celebrate masses in a different way. Lutherans use different dialogue when preparing for the Eucharist, also they have slightly different beliefs. Also they believe the eucharist as a sacrifice to those who have died. Baptists rarely take communion, and generally only take it on special occasions, such as for Christmas or Easter. At some churches it is taken every few months. Roman Catholic Churches are usually ornate with paintings, icons, and/or statues of saints. Baptist churches usually have few paintings and are decorated in a simple fashion. The Roman Catholic Church services are usually shorter than Baptist services (1 to 1-1/2 hours)
