- the polychrome sculpture was very lifelike with glass eyes inserted - he wears a crown of thorns and his hands are bound - the blood trickling down his arm and in the indentations where the ropes were supposed to be - his eyes are closing to show his pain and sorrow

- the visitation is when Mary meets Elizabeth (John the Baptist's mother) - the wall on the left is symbolic of two realms and Mary's robe crosses into it - the women on the right are the rich of Florence - the men in the back are looking out into the city

- the woman in the center is the allegory of Venice - the bottom has the winged lion of St. Mark - Solomonic columns

- this is supposed to be the virgin that John was looking at - the clouds convey she is otherworldly - the half moon and crescent moon convey her immaculate conception - the fountain at the bottom is the purity and and virginity

- this painting is super small - the scale of Mary vs the church makes her larger than life like a church herself - the crown is idealized and represents her divinity - she is holding Jesus
