What is a dashboard?

A dashboard is a visual display of key metrics and trends for records in your org. The relationship between a dashboard component and report is 1:1; for each dashboard component, there is a single underlying report. However, you can use the same report in multiple dashboard components on a single dashboard (e.g., use the same report in both a bar chart and pie chart). Multiple dashboard components can be shown together on a single dashboard page layout, creating a powerful visual display and a way to consume multiple reports that often have a common theme, like sales performance, customer support, etc.

What is a report?

A report is a list of records that meet the criteria you define. It's displayed in Salesforce in rows and columns, and can be filtered, grouped, or displayed in a graphical chart. Every report is stored in a folder. Folders can be public, hidden, or shared, and can be set to read-only or read/write. You control who has access to the contents of the folder based on roles, permissions, public groups, and license types. You can make a folder available to your entire organization, or make it private so that only the owner has access.

What is a report type?

A report type is like a template which makes reporting easier. The report type determines which fields and records are available for use when creating a report. This is based on the relationships between a primary object and its related objects. For example, with the 'Contacts and Accounts' report type, 'Contacts' is the primary object and 'Accounts' is the related object. Reports display only records that meet the criteria defined in the report type. Out of the box, Salesforce provides a set of predefined standard report types. Don't see all the fields you want? You might need to create a custom report type.

Condition highlighting on reports

Conditional Highlighting in Reports in Salesforce is used to highlight field values on summary or matrix reports based on ranges and colors you specify. To enable conditional highlighting, your report must contain at least one summary field or custom summary formula.

Components

Dashboards are made up of components. Each component contains a chart or metric which shows data from one report. Different components can show data from different reports. Components are the visual "blocks" of a dashboard. Each component is either a chart, gauge, metric, or table.

Take note of these dynamic dashboard limitations:

Dynamic dashboards don't support following components. You can't save dynamic dashboards in private folders. You can't schedule refreshes for dynamic dashboards. They must be refreshed manually.

Each dashboard has a running user

Each dashboard has a running user, whose security settings determine which data to display in a dashboard. If the running user is a specific user, all dashboard viewers see data based on the security settings of that user—regardless of their own personal security settings. For this reason, you'll want to choose the running user wisely, so as not to open up too much visibility. For example, set the Sales Manager as the running user for a leaderboard for her team. This allows her team members to view the leaderboard for their individual team, but not other teams. Dynamic dashboards are dashboards for which the running user is always the logged-in user. This way, each user sees the dashboard according to his or her own access level. If you're concerned about too much access, dynamic dashboards might be the way to go.

Dashboard filter gotchas:

Filters can't be added to dashboards that contain Visualforce components. It's not possible to filter on bucket fields. However, it is possible to use a report filtered on a bucket field on the dashboard page. Filters aren't applied when you schedule or email a dashboard. You can't filter data on a joined report in dashboard view or add a filter to a dashboard that only has joined reports.

Dashboards are built with source reports, filters, and components.

Source reports are reports that provide data for components. Each component has one source report. Different components can have different source reports. The fields available for dashboard filters are the fields available in the objects that source reports are based on. Create source reports in the Report Builder.

Report Format

The report format specifies how your report results are laid out. Possible formats are tabular, summary, matrix, or joined. Joined reports aren't available in Lightning Experience.报表可使用列表、汇总、矩阵或已结合格式

Product Schedules

Use product schedules to determine the payment and delivery cycles for products that are paid or delivered over time. A quantity schedule determines when a product is delivered. A revenue schedule determines when a product is paid for. A default schedule is associated with a specific product in a specific price book. Every time the product is added to an opportunity, the default schedule is used. You can override the default schedules on any opportunity.

Dynamic Dashboards

With dynamic dashboards, each user sees the data they have access to without needing to create separate dashboards for each user. This means a single powerful dashboard can be used for multiple users in your company, because the logged-in user viewing the dashboard sees the data they should see, based on their security and sharing settings.
