Colour

House is a series of flat slabs, painted different shades of grey and white. Looks line interlocking planes of a Mondrian painting, follows rules of of use of 3 primary colours with 3 tones of black, grey and white.

Interior

Main living areais upstairs so light and air can flood in. Downstairs each rooms has separate access to the outside creating a freedom of movement.

Objectives

Spaces were designed to accomodate the widowed Mrs Schroder, she expressed she wanted a house that would demonstrate how to live a new kind of life in the 20th century. The design also harbours a sense of flexibility applied so that they could be changed according to their needs. First floor can be a completetely open space.

Facade

The facades are a collage of planes and lines whose components are pursposely detached, and seem to glide past one another. This enabled the provision of several balconies.

Location

The two-storey House is situated in Utrecht, onto the end of a terrace but makes no attempt to relate to its neighbouring buildings

Fenestration

Use of glass adds to feeling of spatial movement-is lighter than Robie House.
