Coronary Circulation

-Supplies blood to the capillaries; -Which nourish every area of the heart.

Angina

-When the coronary arteries become partially blocked, or occluded, an individual often experiences chest pains -chest pain resulting from myocardial ischemia

Systemic Circulation

-blood is pumped from the left side of the heart through the Aorta and travels through arteries, then into arterioles, and then into capillaries

Atherosclerosis

-hardening of the arteries due to the buildup of lipids and other substances on the inside wall of the blood vessels.

Myocardial Infarction (MI)

-heart attack -coronary artery or arteries become totally blocked

Cardiac Angioplasty

-procedure in which a catheter with an inflatable balloon is inserted into a partially blocked artery to push plaque outward and widen the artery wall.

Capillaries

-Supplies blood and nourishment to the heart. -The smallest blood vessels in your body that connect arteries to veins. -Drain into two coronary veins that empty into the right atrium

Artery

- A blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart - Oxygenated Blood - Does NOT have valves

Vein

- A blood vessel that carries blood back to the heart. - Deoxygenated Blood - HAS Valves

Blood Flow Through the Heart and Body

1. Right Atrium 2. Tricuspid Valve 3. Right Ventricle 4. Pulmonic SL Valve 5. Pulmonary Artery (Main) 6. Pulmonary Arteries (R&L) 7. Pulmonary Capillaries 8. Four Pulmonary Veins 9. Left Atrium 10. Bicuspid or Mitral Valve 11. Left Ventricle 12. Aortic SL Valve 13.Aorta 14. Throughout the body

Pulmonary Arteries

Carry De-Oxygenated Blood

Pulmonary Veins

Carry Oxygenated Blood

CABG

Coronary artery bypass grafting

CABG Info:

Type of surgery that improves blood flow to the heart. Surgeons use CABG to treat people who have severe coronary heart disease (CHD). CHD is a disease in which a waxy substance called plaque (plak) builds up inside the coronary arteries.

Pulmonary Circulation

blood is pumped from the right side of the heart to the gas-exchange tissues of the lungs.
