Mexico gains Independence from Spain.... AND Stephen F. Austin brings the first Anglos to Texas, known as the Old 300.

James K. Polk

Believed in Manifest Destiny. Was President of United States in 1845.

Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

Ended the US Mexican War in 1848. Mexico agreed to give up all claims to Texas AND the Rio Grande officially became Texas's southern border AND the US gained the Mexican Cession

Gutierrez and Magee

Filibusters who wanted to continue Father Hidalgos rebellion against Spain, so they built an army to invade Texas and declare it free from Spain

Founding of Mission San Antonio De Valero, The Alamo.

Mexico creates a written Constitution which says Catholicism is the National Religion, you must speak Spanish, slavery is illegal, and separate states are created within Mexico.

William Travis

Leader at the Alamo. Wrote a famous letter from the Alamo asking for reinforcements. Signed the letter Victory or Death!
