Skeletal Muscle Structure
Myosatellite cells
stem cells that function in the repair of damaged muscle tissue
endomysium
thin layer of areolar connective tissue that surrounds each muscle fiber. Loosley interconnects nearby muscle fibers
skeletal muscle fibers
contains capillaries, myosatellite cells, and the axons of the neurons that control the muscle fibers.
tendon
attaches the muscle to a specific point on a bone.
Muscle fascicles
bundles of muscle fibers
Epimysium
dense layer of collagen fibers, surrounds the entire muscle. separates the muscle from surrounding tissues and organs. It is connected to the deep fascia, a dense connective tissue layer
Perimysium
fibrous layer that divides the skeletal muscle into a series of compartments.
aponeurosis
provides attachment over a broad area that may involve more than one bone.
