ogive step 3
plot points at the intersection of the upper class limit and cumulative frequency or relative cumulative frequency
cumulative relative freq dist (discrete)
shows the proportion of observations less than or equal to the category value
cumulative relative freq dist (continuous)
shows the proportion of observations less than or equal to the upper class limit
cumulative frequency dist (discrete variable)
shows the total number of observations less than or equal to the category value. to find: add the frequencies of the classes equal to or below the upper class limit of that class.
cumulative frequency dist (continuous var.)
shows the total number of observations less than or equal to the upper class limit. to find: add the frequencies of the classes equal to or below the upper class limit of that class.
time series plot
a graph of time series data the horizontal axis (x) represents time (e.g. hours, days, months, years); follow the time order as it is listed in the table the values of the time series data are plotted on the vertical (y) axis line segments are drawn to connect the points
time series data
data that are analyzed with respect to time
ogive step 2
draw a horizontal (x) axis and evenly space the upper class limits
ogive step 1
draw vertical (y) axis and evenly space a range of numbers that include the cumulative frequency values or cumulative relative frequency values
difference between frequency distribution and cumulative frequency distribution
frequency distribution gives the frequency counts for each class (grouped or ungrouped) cumulative frequency distribution gives the number of values which are less than or equal to the upper limit of a given class for grouped data or it gives the number of values which are less than or equal to a given number for ungrouped data
ogive
graphical equivalent of a cumulative frequency distribution or a cumulative relative frequency distribution. like a frequency polygon, it consists of a set of plotted points connected by line segments. x coordinates of these points are the upper class limits y coordinates are the cumulative freq or cumulative relative freq
