American settlers and Native Americans fought for the Northwest Territory. American settlers wanted the land because it contained copper, iron, and silver, and not only for its rich soil. Native American wanted it because they have lived for thousands of years.

George Washington helped the new government when he became president. He was the general for the patriots in the revolutionary war. Since he was well respected, people thought he was a good fit for their first president.

Since John Adams was runner up for presidency, he became vice president. Now, the vice president is chosen by the president, when they are running for office. The 12th amendment changed how the vice president is chosen.

To not cause trouble because since George Washington didn't like political parties, he didn't want to cause conflict between them.

To not have only one political view. Having different political views would help solve different problems.
