•draws perfect circles •it is huge about 4 ft tall

Hack saws

•fine toothed hand saw •used to cut metal •make sure wood is secured before cutting

Crow bar

•forces apart two objects or to remove nails •curved neck and pointed foots

Shears

•full metal pair of heavy duty scissors used for cutting cloth •don't run with scissors

Rip blade saw

•hand saw •used to cut parallel to the direction of wood grain

Drill press

•machine tool for drilling holes, set on a fixed stand

Scribe (Scratch Awl)

•makes points to put screws in on wood

Screw gun

•power tool used to drive, tighten, and remove screws •make sure it's in the off position before plugging and unplugging cable

Stationary belt sander

•sander that uses an endless repeating abrasive belt driven by an electric motor •used on rough wooden material to make a smooth surface

Block plane

•shaves wood against grain (and removes paint sorta)

Hand electric drill

•similar to hand drill, different in chuck size and power motor •don't try to drill too fast, place pressure straight down

Tri-Square

•small carpenter's square used to make right angles

Coping saw

•small had saw used mainly for cutting very precise cuts on small pieces of wood.

Saber saw

•small tool, most often for cutting curves •as close as possible to the cutting line

Bevel Square/Set

•square with changeable angle relation used to copy angles •gauge set

Socket wrenches (ratchet wrench)

•tightens many different sizes of nuts and bolts •reverse direction of wrench by turning black triangle on top of head

Nut driver

•tightens nuts and bolts

Bench Grinder

•typically with a pair of grinding wheels •make sure you understand instructions

Router

•use to hollow out an area in face of a relatively hard workplace (i.e. wooden doors) •always place both hands on the router handles until motor stops

Tack hammer

•used as upholstery hammer •very light and thin •long end has magnet

Hand belt saw

•used for beginning stages of the sanding process or to rapidly remove material •replace belts that are worn or frayed

Rubber mallet

•used for construction, wood working •rounded barrel type shape

Miter Box and Miter Saw

•used for cutting at angles •old version of chop saw

Keyhole saw

•used for cutting small holes into wood (now for drywalls for electricity)

Ball Peen Hammer

•used for metal working •round edge opposite of board

Speed wrench

•used for removing fasteners at faster rate by using a ratchet •remove and reposition wrench

Cold chisel

•used for steel, bending it •made of hardened steel •only used with ball peen hammer!

Phillips-head screwdriver

•used for tightening or loosening screws •make sure you use screws with four forks

Adjustable wrench

•used for turning bolts and securing them in place

Cat's paw

•used in demolition •hexagonal bar curves at end, not bent easily •do not use as blunt object

Marking Gauge

•used to create marks on wood to show where to cut

Plumb bob

•used to create vertical alignment between two parts

Aviation snips

•used to cut aluminum and wires •no fingers between clamps

Diagonal cutters

•used to cut wires and gather wires together and cut too •no fingers between clamps

Carpenter's level

•used to determine if surface is level with the ground •metal beam with small cylinders containing alcohol or some other liquid.

Punch

•used to drive objects, such as nails into wood, without marking it (used with hammer)

Allen wrenches

•used to fasten bolts/screws with a hexagonal socket •use only right side or else it won't work •contains different sizes

Wood chisel

•used to gouge out a shaped hole or shaving off a thin portion of a wood surface

Radial Arm Saw

•used to make cross cuts, miter cuts, bevel cuts, and dodo cuts (for many different cuts basically)

Tape Measure

•used to measure distance or length •Do not bend steel tape, it's brittle and could break

Folding Wood Rule

•used to measure distance/length •six measuring tapes stuck together •old fashioned steel tape •don't test it's strength

Combination square

•used to provide a pre-set angle at either 45° or 90° angles •metal ruler with moveable handle

Wonder bar

•used to pry nails, pry, or lift; not as strong as a crow bar

Claw hammer (curved claw)

•used to pull nails from boards •curved and is created for leverage

Tack puller

•used to remove tacks from items such as upholstery •don't use as screwdriver

Flat-head screwdriver

•used to screw in slotted screws •has flat tip

Box wrench

•used when you need to loose/tighten bolts when you need to go at different angles •have to use right part or it won't work
