A musical sound. Pitch can also refer to the highness or lowness of a musical sound.

F clef

Another name for the bass clef. The two dots of the bass clef surround the line on which the note F is placed.

"G clef"

Another name for the treble clef. The curl of the treble clef circles the line on which the note G is placed.

Grand staff

Created when the treble clef and bass clef are connected by a brace. The grand staff is used in piano music.

Clef signs

Indicate the names of the lines and spaces. The staff is found at the beginning of a piece of music.

How are lines and spaces of the staff numbered.

Lines and spaces of the staff are numbered bottom to top.

Pitches on the staff

Low pitches are found at the bottom of the staff high pitches at the top.

Oval shaped symbols placed on the staff that represent musical sounds called pitches. A note also indicates the duration (length) of a musical sound.

Bass clef

Pronounced "base" clef. is used for notes in the lower pitch ranges.

Ledger lines

Short lines added to extend the range of the staff when notes are too high or too low to be written on the staff.

The first seven letters of the alphabet A to G.
