A Creative Commons (CC) license is one of several public copyright licenses that enable the free distribution of an otherwise copyrighted work. A CC license is used when an author wants to give people the right to share, use, and build upon a work that they have created.

Non Disclosure Agreement

A non-disclosure agreement (NDA), also known as a confidentiality agreement (CA), confidential disclosure agreement (CDA), proprietary information agreement (PIA) or secrecy agreement (SA), is a legal contract between at least two parties that outlines confidential material, knowledge, or information that the parties wish to share with one another for certain purposes, but wish to restrict access to or by third parties. The most common forms of these are in doctor-patient confidentiality (physician-patient privilege), attorney-client privilege, priest-penitent privilege, and bank-client confidentiality agreements. It is a contract through which the parties agree not to disclose information covered by the agreement.

Licensing

A software license agreement is the legal contract between the licensor and/or author and the purchaser of a piece of software which establishes the purchaser's rights. A software license agreement details how and when the software can be used, and provides any restrictions that are imposed on the software.

Dedicated Graphics Board

Contains separate processor (GPU) and memory (VRAM) to handle all graphic and video output to monitor As is the case with system RAM, more is better Allows for faster display rates of both static images and video/animation

Copyright Includes:

Basic Law & Digital Content , Plagiarism, Infringement & Piracy Fair Use

Infringement & Piracy (Licensing Piracy)

Copying and/or distributing an entire work without permission. Piracy typically refers to dynamic works such as audio, video, animation, software, or games. Software piracy is the illegal copying, distribution, or use of software.

Hard Drive

Hard drives (HDD) are the storage (long-term) memory in your computer Two important concerns with regard to hard drives are: Amount of storage Access speed Consider a magnetic vs. solid state drive

Trademark

Legal names/logos that represent an entity, a company, and/or their products Protects the owner from their works being reproduced or represented in any manner without permission. Can be registered or unregistered

Patent

Legal protection for any new/useful process, machine, manufactured good or composition of matter. Patents prevent others from making, selling, importing or using an invention

Graphics Card

On-board Graphics Chip Built onto the motherboard nearly all new computers Highly integrated and easy to manage Works for most applications Uses system processor and memory, so may slow down one's workflow Important to know what is allowed or maximum output resolution

Byte

One byte = collection of 8 bits

Trade Secret

Protect company sensitive material from being shared/leaked outside of a company. Covers topics such as: patterns, designs, plans, processes, general "know-how". Unlike copyright, trademarks and patents which fall under federal jurisdiction, trade secret laws differ from state-to-state

Processor

Processors come in a wide variety of models these days The faster the processor speed and more processors located ores in a system, the more efficient your workflow will be

There are two common categories for software under copyright law, and therefore the license grant the licensee specific rights.

Proprietary license. GNU General Public License. End User License Agreement (EULA). Workstation licenses. Concurrent use license. Site licenses. Perpetual licenses.

(SSD)

Solid state drives have no moving parts and access data faster than traditional magnetic drives but are also more expensive

Plagiarism

The act of using or closely imitating a copyrighted work without first acquiring permission to do so or providing appropriate documented references

Fair Use

The use of copyrighted materials without permission based on: The amount & substantiality used Is it the core material or a small portion? The purpose & character of the use How is it being used? The nature of the work used Creative work vs. commonplace details? Harm to the owner's marketplace value Does the new work compete with the original for sales?

Copyright -

This is the term that encompasses laws for protection of Intellectual property. (Title 17 of U.S. Code)

Company Property Protections

Trademark, Patent, Trade Secret, Non Disclosure Agreement

Bit

a "bit" is atomic: the smallest unit of storage, A bit stores just a 0 or 1

Copyright

a form of intellectual property law, protects original works of authorship including literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic works, such as poetry, novels, movies, songs, computer software, and architecture.

RAM

the more RAM you have in your computer, the more efficient or faster your computer responds to user requests It is recommended to always get as much RAM preinstalled on the system as possible but it is important to know the maximum amount a system can be upgraded to as doing so can often make older machines usable again for lower cost than a new purchase
