Know the major characteristics of your climates and where are they found

Tropical Wet - Tropical Wet is only found along the equator. 1 season. The average temperature is about 80 degrees . Tropical Wet/Dry - Tropical Wet/Dry is found near the equator. 2 seasons. During the wet season, temperatures average about 77 degrees. During the dry season, temperatures average about 68 degrees Mediterranean - Mediterranean climate is found between the 30o and 45o degree latitudes. 2 seasons. Winter temperatures are usually between 30 and 65 degrees. Summer months all average above 50 degrees. Humid Subtropical - The Humid Subtropical climate is found on the east coast of continents between 20o and 40o north and south of the equator. 2 seasons. During the summer the average temperature is between 70 and 80 degrees. Marine West Coast - Marine West Coast is usually located along the west coast of mid-latitude continents. 2 seasons. The coldest month rarely averages lower than 30 degrees and the warmest month averages about 72 degrees. Humid Continental - Humid Continental climate is found in the interior of continents between the 30 and 60 degrees latitude, but usually above the 40 degree line. 4 seasons. Summer month temperatures average about 71 degrees and winter months usually average 25 degrees. Subarctic - Subarctic climate is usually found in the interior (not coastal) of high latitude continents usually between 50 and 70 degrees latitude. 2 seasons. Temperatures can reach -40 degrees in the winter and be as high as 85 degrees in the summer. Tundra - Tundra climate is usually found between the 60-75 degree latitude lines. 2 seasons. Winter months temperatures are usually between -18 and -50 degrees. "Summer" temperatures range from 35-50 degrees. Ice Cap - Ice Cap climate is only located near the poles, but this climate covers nearly 20% of the Earth. 2 seasons. The "warmest" month averages about -16 degrees. The coldest month averages about -70 degrees. Arid - Most deserts are found along the 30 degree latitude line (north and south of the equator). 2 seasons. Temperatures can reach as high as 130 degrees or as low as negative 30 degrees. Semiarid - Semiarid climate is always found on the outer edge of Arid climate areas.2 seasons. The temperatures in Semiarid climate depend on the latitude. Highland - Highland climate is the climate of 'high' 'land'. So, this climate is found in high mountain areas. No seasons. At the base (bottom) of a mountain it might be 80 degrees and sunny, but as you climb the mountain it will get colder and be rainy.

Why do we have seasons?

We have seasons because the earth is tilted (wonky) as it makes its yearly journey around the sun.

What is weather?

Weather is the state of the atmosphere, to the degree that it is hot or cold, wet or dry, calm or stormy, clear or cloudy.

What makes 2 countries interdependent?

When they rely on each other for trade

What is a compass rose?

a circle showing the principal directions printed on a map or chart.

What is an isthmus?

a narrow strip of land with sea on either side, forming a link between two larger areas of land.

What is a rain shadow?

a region having little rainfall because it is sheltered from prevailing rain-bearing winds by a range of hills.

Know the following: a. climate b. weather c. temperature d.global warming

a. climate - Weather of an area over time b. weather - the state of the atmosphere at a place and time as regards heat, dryness, sunshine, wind, rain, etc. c. temperature - the degree or intensity of heat in an area at any given time d. global warming - a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants.

What is condensation?

water that collects as droplets on a cold surface when humid air is in contact with it.
