Coefficient
The number in front of a variable in a term. Means multiplication by the number.
Identity Property of Multiplication
The product of a factor and 1 is the factor.
Sum
The result of adding numbers
Quotient
The result of dividing numbers
Product
The result of multiplying numbers
Difference
The result of subtracting numbers
Order of operations
The rules telling in what order to do math operations
Identity Property of Addition
The sum of an addend and 0 is the addend.
Solution
The value of the variable that makes the equation true
Associative Properties
The way in which three numbers are GROUPED when they are added or multiplied does not change their sum or product
Simplify (algebraic)
To apply properties to the expression to eliminate parentheses and combine like terms
Simplify (numeric)
To apply the order of operations rules to the expression
Translate
To determine the appropriate math expression based on a description in words
Evaluate
To find the value of an algebraic expression by replacing the variable with a given value
Solve
To find the value of the variable that makes the equation true
Distributive Property
To multiply a sum by a number, multiply each addend by the number outside the parentheses
Exponential form
Writing a multiplication expression using exponents
Expanded form
Writing a multiplication expression without exponents
Standard form
Writing a number using digits only
Factor

(verb) To write an expression as the product of its factors
Variable
A letter or other symbol used to represent an unspecified number or value
Equation
A math sentence stating that 2 expressions are equal
Expression
A mathematical combination of numbers, variables, and / or operations
Numerical expression
A mathematical expression that has a combination of numbers and at least one operation
Algebra
A mathematical language that uses symbols (usually letters) that stand for unknowns, along with numbers
Base
A number multiplied by itself the number of times shown by an exponent
Perfect square
A number whose square root is a rational number
Exponent
A raised number telling how many times another number, the base, is used as a factor
Constant
A term that does not contain a variable
Algebraic expression
An expression consisting of one or more numbers and variables along with one or more arithmetic operations

Any number being added
