Definition: (data - mean)/standard deviation Example: (x-mean)/SD

bi-modal distribution

Definition: A continuous distribution with two different modes. These appear as distinct peaks in the density curve. Example: A distribution with two modes.

normal distribution

Definition: a function that represents the distribution of many random variables as a symmetrical bell-shaped graph. Example: A bell shaped curve.

density curve

Definition: a graph that shows the shape of a distribution and measures probability as well Example: Mean>Median= Skewed to the left Median>Mean=Skewed to the right Mean=Median= Normal distribution or bell shaped

standard deviation

Definition: a quantity calculated to indicate the extent of deviation for a group as a whole Example: It is the average from the data set.

uniform distribution

Definition: a type of distribution of data in which all outcomes are equally distributed Example: An example is like trees in an orchard.

median

Definition: denoting or relating to a value or quantity lying at the midpoint of a frequency distribution of observed values or quantities Example: The median is in the middle.

skewed right

Definition: right tail of the distribution is considerably longer or drawn out relative to the left tail Example: The mean is larger than the median

skewed left

Definition: the left tail of the distribution is considerably longer or drawn out relative to the right tail Example: The data set is skewed to the left.

z-score

Definition: the number of standard deviations from the mean a data point is Example: The X minus mean divided by SX

mean

Definition: the value obtained by dividing the sum of several quantities by their number; an average. Example: The average of the given data.

less unusual

Definition: the z-score is closer to zero Example: The z score is 0.1 .

more unusual

Definition: the z-score is further away from zero Example: The number is 100000 away from 0.
