It was created by Mr. William G. Morgan in Holyoke, Massachusetts, at the YMCA in 1895. He created volleyball to provide a game with less physical contact for the classes of businessmen. Volleyball is an adaptable team sort that anyone can play. It may be played with different numbers of people like 4 on 4 or 6 on 6. Typically the game is played 6 on 6. It can be played with the net on diffferent hights as well as different surfaces. A team wins a game on reaching 25 and they must win by two points. Rally scoring is used and is when a point is awarded with every serve. A volleyball match consists of 2 out of 3 games.

It`s also called the pass, bump, or dig, it`s the most common pass, it`s mostly often used to receive a serve, the most common error when receiving the serve with a bump is swinging the arms upward on contact, it`s used to pass the ball to the setter, in passing the feet are shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, the arms are out in front of the body, with elbows inward, and make contact with the balll on the inside surface of the forearm. The arms absorb the hit, thus not coming higher than the shoulders.

It`s also called the set, it`s the most controlable pass, in setting the balll the feet are shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, the arms are above the head, with elbows out, the fingers and hands are spread into the shape of a triangle, thumbs pointing toward the nose and wrists flexed back, and the ball is absorbed by the pads of the fingers and thumbs. When making contact with the ball the fingeer tips and thumbs absorb the pass.

The primary objective of each team is to try and hit the ball to the opponent`s side in such a manner as to prevent them from returning the ball, in preparing to receive a serve, players face the server in a semi-crouched position prepared to return the ball with a forearm pass, the first pass is attempted to be directed to the center front position or to the setter, so the seetter then directs the ball to an attacker.
