(1835-1919) He moved to the us in 1848 He educated himself by reading a lot and attending night school where he learned double-entry bookkeeping. Scottish-born Andrew Carnegie was an American industrialist who amassed a fortune in the steel industry then became a major philanthropist (a person who seeks to promote the welfare of others, esp. by the generous donation of money to good causes.) Carnegie worked in a Pittsburgh cotton factory as a boy before rising to the position of division superintendent of the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1859. While working for the railroad, he invested in various ventures, including iron and oil companies, and made his first fortune by the time he was in his early 30s. In the early 1870s, he entered the steel business, and over the next two decades became a dominant force in the industry. In 1901, he sold the Carnegie Steel Company to banker John Pierpont Morgan for $480 million. Carnegie then devoted himself to philanthropy, eventually giving away more than $350 million.

The American Dream has sculpted into something totally different than what it used to be. The years has made it's shape change into something that's different for everyone. For some people the American Dream now is having the camera's flash your way, performing in front of a crowd football wise, musically wise, ect. The American Dream for most is money, fame, the "perfect" life. But, for others the American Dream is simply being happy and doing what they love. I believe there is no exact definition of the American Dream, only that there is different meanings to it, and for some the meaning is much deeper than fortune, and fancy cars and houses. According to Gale Student Resources, the American Dream is now seen to be having expensive houses, cars, clothes or even being resulting less to achieve this dream. Leaving only the wealthy to succeed in this dream, leading us back around the cycle to the beginning for us middle or lower classmen. Because In our minds the dream is too high to achieve, we prioritize on our needs and push our wants and dreams to the side. The American Dream has somehow changed into making us Americans think that The American Dream or whatever you desire is given to you without hard work rather than in the beginning working for your success. To most people in the past, the American Dream was to move to America. A place where you had to work their way up the scale through the hard work and labor they put in. A place for freedom and wealth. They rushed at the fact that they could essentially make their way up to the "top." In the 12th century, The American Dream was working together with your fellow citizens to make life better for the American masses. During WW2 many believed the American Dream was having these crucial freedoms: religion, freedom of want, and freedom of fear. Back when people aimed for feeding their families, keeping them safe, and freedom was the best thing you could get and were happy with that. After WW2 the American Dream was to own a nice home with joyful family members. As the years slowly went by the American Dream became harder to achieve. As many tried to achieve this goal using a credit, it crumbled in pieces during the twenty first century causing many people to lose the life they worked so hard to attain. Resulting from this failure many children/teenagers don't think they can achieve more than their parents or go on a different path. It's not that the dream wasn't there, it's just our understanding wasn't quite right. This is how the American Dream has changed in the past.
