How did African Americans seek fairer treatment during the war?

African Americans threatened a mass protest unless FDR moved to end discrimination in the armed forces. In response, FDR ordered employers doing business with government to support racial equality in hiring. FDR set up the fair employment practicing committee (FEPC) to investigate charges of discrmination. The FEPC and the growing need for workers opened many new jobs that previously had been closed to African Americans.

What economic restrictions did Americans face during World War II?

Americans were expected to play a role in suppyling allied forces with food, clothing and war equitment. They needed to consreve resources resulting in rationing. They planted victory gardens to suppliment food supplies and bought war bonds to help pay military costs.

Benefits: The war quickly ended the Great Depression. Unemployment decreased as millions of jobs opened up in factories and minority workers found jobs where they had been rejected in the past. Morale at home was increased by efforts to supply goods for allied forces. Costs: people were restricted in what they could purchase ex. coffee, sugar, gas. And all were expected to play a role in supplying allied forces with food clothing and war equipment.

How did WW2 effect Japenese Americans and other groups of people at home?

Japanese Americans were sent to remote internment camps enclosed by barbwire. internies were allowed to bring with them only what they cld carry and had to sell the rest of their possestions quickly at a fraction of what theymwere worth. The Japanese were not released until after the war ended and a small payment was payed to them for the property they lost. German and Italian Americans were also held in government camps as enemy aliens They also also faced curfews and travel restictions. African Americans were discriminated against and segragated in seperate units in WW2. As Mexicans move North to work on farms and railroads they offen faced predjudice and violent strife.

What happened to Japanese Americans on the West Coast during the war?

The intense anti Japanese fears(Ams thought they would act as spies to help enemy submarines shell military bases or coastal cities) lead FDR to issue an executive order 9066 in Febuary 1942. The order was used to intern, or temporarily imprison some one hundred and ten thousand Japenese americans for the duration of the war.

How did the Unted States build its military and convert its economy to meet war time need?

The volenteer draft law was revised to require people to serve for the entire war. Resulting in more tahn 15 million volenteers and draftees. They built new military bases around the country. They trained recruits to fight in jungles, deserts and farmlands. and recruited thousands of women. Industry converted its output from consumer to military good and as a result military output nearly doubled.
