What was the 3/5 clause?

What did the North think about the 3/5 Clause?

They thought slaves should not count as people because they were treated like property, if slaves were counted as property, then they should be taxed (would benefit the North), and the North thought that the South would have an unfair advantage in the government because they would have more representatives in congress.

What did the South think on the 3/5 Clause?

They wanted slaves to count as people because they would have a greater population number and more power in the government, and if slaves were counted in the representation of the states, the slave states would get more representatives in the House of Representatives.
