Arigatou gozaimasu (Thank you - formal)

ありがとう ございます。

Arigatou (Thank you - casual)

ありがとう。

ii desuka? (is it okay? - typically asking if something makes sense) [Note: all questions in with か]

いい ですか?

iie, wakarimasen. (no, I do not understand)

いいえ、わかりません。

Itte kudasai (Please say it out loud)

いって ください。

ookikoe de itte kudasai (please speak louder) [kudasai is more of a polite command. Used by bosses to employees or teachers to students.] **switch out 'kudasai' with 'onegaishimasu' when speaking to someone of equal standing (ex: a classmate) or of higher standing (ex: an instructor) or a stranger.

おおきこえ で いって ください。

ookikoe de onegaishimasu (please speak louder) [onegaishimasu is used when speaking to someone you just met or someone of higher status. Such as a student to a teacher. This sounds more like a polite request.]

おおきこえ で おねがいします。

Onamae wa nandesuka? (What is your name?) [は is pronounced like 'wa' when used as a participle. は, as a participle, designates the subject of the sentence. In this case the subject is your speaking partner's name.]

おなまえ は なんですか?

Ohaiyou Gozaimasu (Good Morning - formal)

おはいよう ございます。

Ohaiyou (Mornin' - casual) [just like う after an 'o' hiragana, the dash mark, 一, will elongate the vowel sound of the character before it]

おはいよー

Owarimashou (Class dismissed - said by instructors at the end of class)

おわりましょう。

Kiite kudasai (please listen)

きいて ください。

kore wa nihongo de nantoiimasuka? (What do you call this in Japanese?) ['Kore' can be swapped out for 'are' or 'sore' depending on the proximity of which you are asking.]

これ は にほんご で なんといいますか?

Konnichiwa (Hello)

こんにちわ。

Konbanwa (Good Evening)

こんばんわ。

Sayounara (Goodbye - long period of time before reunion, casual)

さようなら。

Shitsurei shimasu (Goodbye/Hello - said when entering/leaving an instructor's office or leaving the classroom)

しつれい します。

Shukudai o dashite kudasai (please turn in your homework)

しゅくだい を だして ください。

Jya, mata (See ya - casual goodbye)

じゃ、また。

Sumimasen (Sorry - formal)

すみません。

Sore (that - far distance)

Daijoubu ja arimasen. (I am not okay - formal)

だいじょうぶ じゃ ありません。

Daijoubu ja nai. (I am not okay - casual)

だいじょうぶ じゃ ない。

Daijoubudeska? (Are you okay?)

だいじょうぶですか?

Hai, ii desu (Yes, it's okay/ I'm good/ I got it)

はい、いい です。

Hai, daijoubu desu. (Yes, I'm okay)

はい、だいじょうぶです。

Hai, wakarimashita (yes, I do understand)

はい、わかりました。

Hajimemashite (Hello - when greeting someone you're meeting for the first time.)

はじめまして。

Hajimemashou (Let's begin - said by the instructor at the beginning of class)

はじめましょう。

Hon o mite kudasai. (look at the book please)

ほん を みてください。

Hon o minaide kudasai (Please do not look at the book) [を is pronounced like 'o' when used as a participle. を is used to show an action in relation to something. In this case 'to not look' at the book.]

ほん を みないで ください。

Mite kudasai (please look)

みて ください。

Minaide kudasai (do not look please)

みないで ください。

mouichido itte kudasai (please say it one more time)

もういちど いって ください。

mouichido onegaishimasu (please say it one more time)

もういちど おねがいします。

Mousukoshi yukkuri onegaishimasu. (Please speak slower)

もうすこし ゆっくり おねがいします。

Yonde kudasai (Please read)

よんで ください。

Wakarimashitaka? (Do you understand)

わかりましたか?

_____ tte iimasu. (You call it _____.)

__って いいます。

____ tte nandesuka? ( What is _______ ?)

__って なんですか?

_____ desu. (saying something "is so" like saying your name or that you're a student, the phrase ends with 'desu')

Are (that - very far distance)

Iie, dame desu (No it is not okay)

いいえ、だめ です。

Kaite kudasai (Please write)

かいて ください。

Kore (this - in possession/nearby/close)

Douitashi mashite (you're welcome)

どういたし ました。

Douzo yoroshiku (I'll be in you're care - said after introductions) [when placing an う or お after a hiragana character that ends with an 'o' sound it elongates the 'o' sound. The same is applied to adding あ after a hiragana character that ends with an 'a' sound. As well as い after an 'i' hiragana and え after an 'e' hiragana] **the romanji may say 'Dou' but an "oo"/'u' sound will not be said. Instead the 'o'/"oh" sound will be dragged out.
