A1- Lesson 5:1&2&3 Functions and Function Notation
range
the set of all outputs for a function "y-value"
input
what is put in, taken in, or operated on by any process or system.
ordered pair
shows the relationship between two elements, written in a specific order using parentheses notation and a comma separating the two values.
output
The results of the operation of any system.
Domain
The set of all inputs for a function "x-value"
function
a relation in which each element of the domain is paired with exactly one element of the range
relation
a set of pairs of input and output values
finite set
a set with a definite number of elements
infinite set
a set with an unlimited, or infinite, number of elements
mapping
a visual- representation of a relation in which an arrow associates each input with its output (input → output)
function notation
an equation in the form of 'f(x)=' to show the output value of a function, f, for an input value x
f(x) = y
domain is 'x' Range is 'f(x)' and 'y'
