Tuberosity

A large, often rough prominence -Typically attachment areas for muscles or tendons

Crest

A prominent, often roughened border or ridge

Head

A rounded surface projecting from a bone by a neck

Meatus

A type of canal in bone

Spine

An abrupt prominence of the the bone that may be a blunt or sharply pointed projection

Articulation

Area of the skeleton where the bones are joined

Fossa

Depression on a bony surface

Process

General term for any prominence on a bony surface

Cornu

Hornlike prominence (only on hyoid)

Notch

Indentation at the edge of a bone

Canal

Longer, narrow, tubelike opening in bone

Fissure

Narrow, cleftlike opening in bone

Condyle

Oval bony prominence, usually at articulations

Arch

Prominent bridgelike bony structures

Tubercle or eminence

Rounded elevation on the bony surface

Sulcus

Shallow depression or groove, such as that on a bony surface

Foramen

Short, windowlike opening in bone

Line

Straight, small ridge

Lambdoidal suture

Suture between occipital bone & paired parietal bones

Coronal suture

Suture extending between the frontal & parietal bones

Sagittal suture

Suture extending from the front to the back of the skull, between the parietal bones

Suture

Union of bone joined by fibrous tissue (generally immovable)
