Angle Relationships
vertical angles
A pair of opposite congruent angles formed by intersecting lines.
same side interior angles
The two angles that are inside (interior) the parallel lines and are on the same side of the transversal Are SUPPLEMENTARY (add up to 180 degrees)
complementary angles
Two angles whose sum is 90 degrees
alternate exterior angles
angles that lie outside a pair of parallel lines and on opposite sides of a traversal that are congruent
same side exterior angles
exterior angles that lie on the same side of the transversal. Are SUPPLEMENTARY (add up to 180 degrees)
adjacent angles
side by side angles that share a common vertex and a ray
triangles
Has 3 sides and 3 angles; all three angles add up to 180 degrees
supplementary angles
Angles that add to 180 degrees (can be adjacent or non-adjacent)
congruent angles
Angles that have the same size and shape.
corresponding angles
Angles that lie on the same side of the transversal and in corresponding positions.
alternate interior angles
Angles that lie within a pair of parallel lines and on opposite side of a traversal that are congruent.
transversal
A line that crosses two or more lines
pentagon
a five-sided polygon where the interior angles add up to 540 degrees
quadrilateral
a four sided shape, all angles add up to 360 degrees
Linear Angles (Linear Pair)
adjacent angles whose non common sides are opposite rays, that when added together equal 180 degrees
parallel lines
two or more lines that never cross or touch
