Anterior Inferior Iliac Spine

The AIIS is a smaller prominence located just below and anterior to the ASIS. It is also a point of attachment for ligaments and muscles.

Anterior Superior Iliac Spine

The ASIS is the bony prominence at the anterior end of the iliac crest. It is an important landmark for measuring and locating various anatomical structures.

Posterior Inferior Iliac Spine

The PIIS is a smaller bony prominence located just below and posterior to the PSIS. It is less prominent than the PSIS but is still relevant in anatomical and clinical contexts.

Posterior Superior Iliac Spine

The PSIS is a bony prominence at the posterior end of the iliac crest. It is another important landmark and is often used in clinical assessments.

Ala of the ilium

The ala is the broad, wing-like portion of the ilium. It extends laterally and contributes to the overall width of the hip bone.

Greater Sciatic Notch

The greater sciatic notch is a large notch on the posterior aspect of the ilium. It is located below the posterior inferior iliac spine and forms part of the greater sciatic foramen, a passageway for nerves and blood vessels.

Iliac Crest

The iliac crest is the prominent upper border of the ilium. It can be palpated along the side of the body and is an important landmark for various anatomical references.

Iliac Fossa

The iliac fossa is the smooth, concave surface on the internal (medial) aspect of the ilium. It is located below the iliac crest and provides attachment for muscles of the abdominal wall.
