What are the stages of creative and artistic development in children? What are some ways parents can both discourage and encourage their children's creativity?

Children begin exploring and inventing with their art, and using their imagination at a young age. As they get older, children begin draw things as a comparison to what they see in the world. Discouragement can come from harshly criticizing their work for not being realistic. Let them draw what their mind sees, not what the world is. One way for parents to encourage their children's creativity is to not give them coloring books, or make them be creative inside the lines. Instead encourage them to draw from their imagination.
