מַבָּט

n. m.:Zc 9:5 expectation = object of hope or confidence (lit. thing looked to);—sf. מַבָּטֵנוּ Is 20:6, מַבָּטָם v:5, מֶבָּטָהּ Zc 9:5; —of Cush as ally of Judah Is 20:5, 20:6; of Tyre as ally of l'hilistia Zc 9:5.

עִוְעִים

n. pl. abstr. distorting, warping (for ...עַוְעֲוִים);—רוּחַ עִוְעִים Is 19:14 temper of distorting, i.e. warped judgement.

חָגָּא

n.[f.] reeling (Aramaism for חגה Ew:§ 173 b, by copyist's err. Di)—למצרים...לח׳ וְהָֽיְתָה Is 19:17 and the land of Judah shall become to Egypt a reeling, i.e. Egypt shall reel in terror at the sight of it (||יִפְחָ֑ד; this mng. may either be fr. an orig. sense of חגג, or = be excited as at a חָג, cf. חנג 3).

יָעֵל

n.[m.] mountain-goat (NH id.; Targum יְעֵיעָא, Syr. yalÁoÀ; Ar. waÁlun, waÁlun; As ia'ilu Dl:S 53 (but Hpt:BAS i. 170, Jäger:ib. 465); Eth. wuÁlä: v. Hom:NS 280)—Pl. יְעֵלִים Psalm 104:18 (||שְׁפַנִּים); הַיּ׳ צוּרֵי 1 S 24:3; יַעֲלֵי־סָ֑לַע Jb 39:1 (||אַיָּלוֹת; cf. I. יַעֲלָה).

שָׂפָם

n.[m.] moustache (cf. Nsyr. sapmoÀ rete; on meaning and form v. Thes Ol:408 Kö:ii. 73);—abs. שׂ׳: Mi 3:7 +, sf. שְׂפָמוֹ 2 S 19:25;—moustache: עָשָׂה שׂ׳: 2 S 19:25 (LXX μύσΤάξ) i.e. trim it; עַל־שׂ׳ עָטָה: Mi 3:7, Ez 24:17, 24:22, Lv 13:45 (P; v. I. עטה 1).

אֵ֫בֶה

n.[m.] reed, papyrus (etymology uncertain; = Ar. ÀabaÀun, As. abu Dl:W, AGl) אֵבֶ֑ה אֳנִיּוֹת Jb 9:26 (craft made of reeds, light & swift, Heliod.:Aethiop. X, 460) = כְּלֵי־גֹמֶא Is 18:2.

שֵׁת

n.[m.] seat (of body), buttocks (cf. NH שִׁית, Aram. šat foundation; cf. [שָׁת] p. 1011; Nö:M 98);—abs. שׁ׳: Is 20:4; pl. sf. שְׁתוֹתֵיהֶם 2 S 10:4.

מֶרְקָחָה

n.f. 1. ointment-pot, in which ointment is compounded, Jb 41:23 (fig.). 2. spice-seasoning (?); as acc. cogn. v. ð Hiph.

מַשְׂטֵמָה

n.f. animosity;—Ho 9:7 + v:8 (del. We, cf. Now).

נִשְׁכָּה

n.f. chamber (rare || of לִשְׁכָּה, q.v.; cf. W:SG 67);—abs. נ׳ Ne 13:7, sf. נִשְׁכָּתוֹ Ne 3:30, both rooms of individuals; pl. abs. נְשָׁכוֹת 12:44 (Chr) = treasuries, storehouses.

פַּלָּצוּת

n.f. shuddering;—פ׳ abs. Jb 21:6, Is 21:4, Ez 7:18, Psalm 55:6.

שַׁעַטְנֵז

n.m. mixed stuff (perh. of Egypt. origin; Kn der. from Copt. saht, woven, + nudj, false (Peyron:Lex 224. 133), and thinks orig. שַׁעַטְנֹז; LXX has κίβδηλος spurious);—a kind of cloth forbidden for garments; defined Dt 22:11 by צֶמֶר וּפִשְׁתִּים יַחְדָּו, and Lv 19:19 (H) by כִּלְאַיִם

לֵחַ

n.m. moisture, freshness (i.e. force, vigour);—sf. וְלֹא נָם לֵחֹה Dt 34:7 and his freshness had not fled; rd. prob. also בְּלֵחוֹ for MT בְּלַחְמוֹ Je 11:19 (v. לֶחֶם ad fin.; on Zp 1:17 v. לְחוּם).

זָדוֹן

n.m.: Pr 11:2 insolence, presumptuousness (on format. cf. Lag:BN 204, Anm.), abs. ז׳ Dt 17:12 + 7 t.; cstr. זְדוֹן Je 49:16, Ob 3; sf. זְדֹנְךָ 1 S 17:28; —1. insolence, presumption toward men; affirmed of David by Eliab 1 S 17:28 (||רֹעַ לְבָבֶ֑ךָ); usu. 2. of presumptuous godlessness (cf. זוּד, זֵד), exhibited in disobedience to priest or judge Dt 17:12; in false prediction 18:22; in gen. שָׁפָן

חוּג

רָתַח

vb. boil (NH id.; Ecclus 43:3 Hiph. make hot; Aram רְתַח, rtahÍ boil);—Pi. Imv. ms. רַתַּח causat. Ez 24:5 cause to boil, bring to boiling, c. acc. rei. Pu. Pf. 3 pl. רֻתְּחוּ Jb 30:27 my bowels have been made to boil without quiet (fig. of violent emotion). Hiph Impf. 3 ms. כַּסּיר מְצוּלָה יַרְתִּיחַ Jb 41:23 he (the crocod.) maketh the depth boil like the pot.

קָפַץ

vb. draw together, shut (NH = BH; Ar. qafasÍa collect, conjoin, tie; Syr. qpas draw together, contract, withdraw (cf. Nö:M 47: ZMG xxxiii (1879), 516); Targum קְפַץ hasten (double oneself up in running), Pi. hop, spring);—Qal Pf. 3 ms. ק׳: Psalm 77:10, etc.; Impf. 2 ms. תִּקְפֹּץ Dt 15:7; 3 mpl. יִקְפְּצוּ Is 52:15;—shut hand Dt 15:7 (c. מִן away from, so as not to lend; opp, פתח v:8); mouth, in astonishment Is 52:15, in abject silence Jb 5:16, Psalm 107:42; fig. ק׳ רַחֲמָיו: 77:10 shut up his compassion. Niph. Impf. 3 ms. יִקָּֽפְצוּן Jb 24:24 si vera l., they draw themselves together, of contraction in death (cf. Di Bu; Ol יִקָּֽבְצוּן are gathered in). Pi. Pt. מְקַפֵּץ עַל־הַגְּבָעוֹת Ct 2:8 springing (i.e. making repeated contractions of body, in taking leaps) upon the hills (||מְרַלֵּג).

הוּת

vb. shout at, si vera l. (Ar. hawta c. Ály shout at, threaten, dialect. for hayta, cf. De Psalm 62:4 who camp. טָוָה

vb. spin (NH id.; Aram. מַטְוַוְיְתָא spider Jb 8:14 Targum (but Syr. tÍwoÀ = roast, broil, v. Dr:JPh xi, 1882, 207); As. tÌâmú (tÌâuú), spin, Hpt:ZA, 1887, 274 Dl:HWB 302; Ar. tÍaway fold, wind; Eth. t'awaya:: be twisted)—Qal Pf. 3 pl. טָווּ work of women of Isr. Ex 35:25 abs., v:26 sq. acc. אֶת־הָעִזִּים goats, i.e. goats' hair (P).

רָפַס, רָפַשׂ

vb. stamp, tread, foul by stamping, treading (NH רָפַס tread, Syr. rpas; cf. Ar. rafasa kick);—Qal Impf. 2 ms. וַתִּרְפֹּס Ez 32:2, c. acc. rivers; 2 mpl. תִּרְפּשֹׁ֑וּן 34:18. Niph. Pt. מַעְיָן נִרְפָּשׂ Pr 25:26 a fountain befouled. Hithp. (stamp oneself down, then fig.), Imv. ms. הִתְרַפֵּס Pr 6:3 humble thyself, become a suppliant (RV:m Toy bestir thyself, as conject.); Pt. מִתְרַפֵּס בְּרַצֵּי כָ֑סֶף Psalm 68:31 stamping, trampling, down pieces of silver (?), obscure and prob. crpt., see conjj. in Bae al. and פַּתְרֹס supr., ad fin.
