Ming Mapping

A graphical representation that can be used to generate, visualize, and organize ideas to solve a problem. The ideas are arranged in a branching fashion according to relative importance, with the major ideas branching directly from the center main idea. Other ideas that are triggered by or related to the major ideas are then connected to major ideas.

The Rules

Brainstorming is a technique for solving problems, generating ideas, and stimulating creative thinking. Brainstorming can be: completed individually or in groups, structured or free form, and timed or untimed. Most importantly, brainstorming involves collecting ideas without regard to feasibility and without criticism.

Recording Ideas

Designate a good notetaker who can compile all notes from the session. This might even include taking photographs of whiteboards or notebook pages. You can use a variety of methods to record your ideas. Ex. Sticky Notes, Free Writing, Voice (Audio) Recording/ Blurting Out

Brainstorming Techniques

Forced Association, SCAMMPERR, and Mind mapping

Forced Association

Ideas created by mentally forcing the association of two seemingly unrelated items. An example is Johan Gutenberg's idea for the printing press. He combined the ideas of a wine press and a coin stamp to think of a movable-type press.
