The course says that the assignment is due on Thursday April...., (which is a holiday). Susan waits until Friday to do the assignment. How many points will Susan get?

Susan will get all the points she earns on the assignment, because she completed the assignment during the grace period (between Thursday at 5 pm and Monday at 8 am).

Professor Bailey: Since I took the syllabus quiz and answered all the questions correctly, do I still need to read and be familiar with the syllabus? Susan Student

Yes

For each unit in this course, students are expected to:

each unit generally requires the students to read the assigned chapters and lecture notes, complete the online discussion board assignments, and complete the required quizzes.

The time limit for Exam # 4/Final exam is:

Sam, a student, that is registered with the student disability resource center (SDRC) must email me a copy of his accommodation letter when?

By the end of the second week of class or if the accommodation is made by the SDRC after the course starts, as soon as he receives the letter from the SDRC.

I can call the instructor on his cell phone number:

Anytime before 9:00 p.m. eastern

Late work beyond the established grace periods (e.g., exams and assignments) will be accepted only when the instructor is notified in advance and for legitimate, documented reasons BEFORE THE DUE DATE OF THE ASSIGNMENT. Notifications during the grace period are not accepted. If you are sick, family problems, etc... on Thursday - then notify me - even if you think you will be better and will complete the quiz, etc... before Monday morning. If you are better and complete the assignment, great. If your not, then you will have provided notice and you will be given an opportunity to finish the material.

In the following scenario will the student be given extra points to receive a passing grade?Mr. Bailey:Sir im not asking for any special oppurtunity that is out of the ordinary. I have a 69% in the class and am asking for a chance to raise that with a chance to turn something in that i had done late for partial credit. A student being 1% away from passing the course asking to improve a previous assignment to pass the class when the student told the teacher he was out of town due to family issues and wanted to turn it in late for partial credit which now determines passing the class is not so far fetched. I E mailed you as soon as I got back to town the day the assignment was due but i didnt get back to late that night telling you my situation. Please try to see it from my perspective. Thank You:

No

Will the following student be given extra points or extra assignments to pass the course?Mr Bailey- I just wanted to let you know that this semester I had a lot of things go wrong and have a real tough time with a lot of people in my life. I know you probably get a lot of these emails but I wanted to let you know. On top of everything when I would go to take your tests I would have anxiety attacks. And before the final I was having the same thing happen. I really do not know what the problem is. I am trying to graduate next semester and this grade will not allow me too. I have never received any kind of D in my life. I know I am asking you to bump my final grade 20 points to a C- but I am telling you the honest to god truth. I would not be in this position if these things did not happen the way they did. Im sorry for having to send you this email. I really appreciate it. Thank You so much.

The quiz in each unit is worth 62.5 points. You can take the unit quiz as many times as you like before it is due in order to achieve a higher grade. Your quiz grade will reflect your highest grade submission for that quiz. A unit quiz with 25 questions is worth 62.5 points. In a unit quiz with 25 questions, each question in that quiz would be worth 2.5 points. A unit quiz with 50 questions is worth 62.5 points. In a unit quiz with 50 questions, each question in that quiz would be worth 1.25 points. If Sam takes a unit quiz with 40 questions, how many points is each question worth?

1.57 points

The graded items in this course consist of which of the following:

4 exams, Unit Discussion Board assignments, this Syllabus Quiz, and Unit Quizzes.

The quiz in each unit is worth 62.5 points. You can take the unit quiz as many times as you like before it is due in order to achieve a higher grade. Your quiz grade will reflect your highest grade submission for that quiz. Susan takes the unit 4 quiz and scores 45 points out of the 62.5 points possible. Susan takes the unit 4 quiz a second time and scores 35 points of the 62.5 points possible. Susan takes the unit 4 quiz a third time and scores 62.5 points out of the 62.5 points possible. How many points does Susan earn for the unit 4 quiz?

62.5 points because that was the highest grade she received on the quiz.

Sam just took a quiz and received 62.7 points and the syllabus says each unit quiz is worth 62.5 points. How many points will Sam get? All the unit quizzes are 62.5 points each. All the questions in an individual quiz are weighted equally. As a result, depending on the number of the questions in a quiz, the score will not be an even score. For example, a unit quiz worth 62.5 points contains 30 questions. Each question is worth 2.09 points. 30 questions multiplied by 2.09 = 62.7 points (this does not exactly add up to 62.5 points). The points per quiz question are rounded up slightly so that the total of the points is at least 62.5 points per unit quiz. The student will get the benefit of the extra ".2" points. This principal applies to all the quiz-type evaluations in the course.

Susan, a student, lives in Panama City, Florida. A unit quiz is posted on Canvas with a due date of Monday at 8:00 a.m. Susan must complete her unit quiz by:

Professor Bailey: I am a distance learning student and I am on a boat, in space, in the mountains, in a cave, in New York, in ..... and I don't have access to a computer with high-speed internet access and a webcam. What should the student do?

Drop the course.

Will the following student receive extra points to get a better grade?Professor, I don't mean to keep pestering you about this but I'm in an interesting situation here. My current GPA is a 2.97. I'm applying to law school once my fall grades are on my transcript. I waited to send my applications so I would hopefully have a 3.0 when I sent them in. I took 4 classes this semester, and in order to have an overall 3.0 I need a 3.25 for the semester. In my three other classes I have an A- and two Bs. The 5 pts on my quiz average that I'm missing would give me a B+ in your class, which would give me the 3.25, which in turn would give me an overall 3.0. I would be so completely grateful if you would help me out. Again sorry to keep bothering you.

No

Will this student get extra points for a better grade? Dear Mr. Bailey, Hi, my name is Marry Missing Class and this email is in regards to asking to see if you are willing to count my quiz 15 twice and drop my quiz 14 grade. Unfortunately this weekend was very busy with initiation of my business fraternity, meetings, work, and my 21st, and I was unable to do well on my final exam which dropped my grade down to a B+. I was extremely disappointed in myself to maintain an A throughout the semester and than dramatically do horrible on my final. When I looked at my grade I noticed that I forgot to complete the unit 14 quiz. And I am positive that I did that quiz. I am asking if you could possibly count one of my other quizzes double. Like I said I am just very disappointed in myself to see how bad I did on my final and it hurts to see my grade so close to an A . I understand if you are not willing to fix that but I would really appreciate it if you could because I truly do feel like I have worked hard in this class. I had a great semester and thank you for always making it a fun time. Hope you have a great summer. Sincerely,

No

In this course, if the student needs extra points after the end of the semester:

No additional points will be offered or given.

Sam takes the discussion board quiz and gets all the questions correct. Sam also takes the discussion board survey and gets all the points for the survey. Sam does NOT post a comment under the discussion board for that unit. Will Sam lose any points for failing to post an OPTIONAL discussion board post/comment.

No, Sam must take the DB quiz and the DB survey, but he is NOT required to post on the topics. Posting is encouraged, but it is only optional.

The course says that the assignment is due on Thursday April...., 2018 (which is a holiday). George waits until Tuesday to try and do the assignment because the holidays run from Thursday through Monday. Will George be able to do the assignment?

No, because George did not complete the assignment before it was due or during the grace period.

Sam, a great student, completed all the unit assignments prior to an exam on the first day the units were opened up. Sam did not think he needed to read the course emails or announcements because he had already completed all the unit assignments, designated his proctor, signed up for the exam, and received his confirmation from the testing center for his exam date/time. Sam, did not read the course emails and announcements (sent out well in advance) regarding a scheduling error on the syllabus and that the dates for the exam window changed. If Sam fails to take the exam, will he be allowed to take a make-up exam?

No, unless he schedules a make-up exam with a penalty of 150 points.

Can I use the examity online proctor service? Below are all the reasons why I need to use it, why it is great, etc...

No. You must use Honorlock.

What should a student study when preparing for the exams?

Read and study all the chapters, watch all the videos, the powerpoint lecture notes, study the quizzes, and all other material provided in the course. Each student studies and learns differently. In general, I would advise that you read the text thoroughly. Additionally, while going through the quiz questions in each unit and taking the quizzes multiple times that you prepare flash cards into groups based on subject matter. If you take the quiz enough times, you will eventually start to see the same questions repeat (I noticed that you previously only took the unit quizzes a few times or not at all). You should also review all the material in the text that relates to each question in the unit quizzes (look up each quiz question - even if you know the answer - read the surrounding text to fully understand those concepts). However, if this is a technique that does not work for you - do what works best for you.

After you have read, analyzed, and considered the post for each unit, you are required to do two things for each unit discussion board: You must take a quiz on the discussion board post content (10.42 points). This is not part of the course quiz grade, this is part of the discussion board grade, and 2. You must take a graded survey on the discussion board post content (10.42 points). What happens if Sam only does one of the above?

Sam will not get a chance to finish the DB assignment after it closes.

Susan used Wikipedia to study the course material prior to the exam. During the exam, Susan notices that there are some answer options that agree with what the course textbook says, but disagrees with what she learned from Wikipedia. Susan should mark which answer option on the exam correct?

The option that matches the textbook.

If an assignment due date falls on a holiday (ex. Thanksgiving is on Thursday), the assignment is due:

The student can finish the assignment before the holiday or on the holiday, but the due date is not extended.

Professor: I am unable to purchase a copy of the text because I don't have the money, my student loans have not come in, my .... What will the professor suggest to the student?

The student should use the copies of the texbook on reserve at the library or should purchase the ebook online from the publisher. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide you any financial assistance for purchasing the textbook and you are still responsible for knowing the information in the text for completing the course material.

If Susan is having trouble accessing the materials within the BUL3310 course navigation menu (the links on the far left of the website page). She can access this same material by scrolling down and using the links on the front/entry page of the course site (see picture below). This is occurring because she is still logging into the old Canvas URL, fsu.instructure.com, rather than our new alias, canvas.fsu.edu. The Canvas Redirect Tool specifically loads using canvas.fsu.edu, so if a user is logging into the old URL they will receive an error message. This may also be affecting her because she is using the Canvas Mobile App, and Canvas is unable to change the true URL for their self-run mobile platform. Susan needs to login via canvas.fsu.edu directly or from their my.fsu.edu page, as the Canvas link embedded there will lead to the correct alias. Regarding the Mobile App, it will unfortunately not be able to be fixed, Susan can certainly just use the links on the front/entry page (see below) or login to canvas.fsu.edu from her mobile web-browser instead of the app itself. Last, ALL the links on the left of the page can be accessed via the links on the front/entry page of the course site. (see below) just keep scrolling down on the front/entry page and she will see the link to all the other units. Susan should contact the professor or canvas support ([email protected]) if she still needs help.

Quizzes There is an open-book quiz in every unit that the student must take. The quiz in each unit is due by 5:00 p.m. EST on the Thursday after the unit has opened as outlined on the schedule in the syllabus. Each quiz is worth 62.5 points. You can take the unit quiz as many times as you like before it is due in order to achieve a higher grade. Your quiz grade will reflect your highest grade submission for that quiz. Each time you take a quiz it will populate with different questions from that unit - you may find taking each quiz multiple times a helpful study tool (but each quiz will only be open during the unit/week it is due). If you wish to study from the quizzes you must print them out as you take them. They will not be made available in any other format. I would suggest you take the quizzes multiple times until you feel confident in the material. The quiz questions are reflective of the type of questions and material that you will see on the exams in this course. Contact me if you have problems with the quizzes before they are due on 5 p.m. each Thursday as outlined in the syllabus. The quizzes in each unit will remain open until 8:00 a.m. EST on the following Monday morning. You can complete your quiz without any reduction in your grade for being late, prior to 8:00 a.m. EST on Monday, but I will not provide any help for any reason after the due date. Before 5:00 p.m. on Thursday I will work with you to try and resolve whatever problems you may be having with the quizzes. Before 5:00 p.m. on Thursday we get it fixed After 5:00 p.m. on Thursday your problem I would suggest that you do not wait to complete the quiz at a time after 5:00 p.m. on Thursday (you can if you want because it will be open until 8:00 a.m. est on Monday morning). If you have any problems with the course website, (it blows up, shuts down the whole weekend for maintenance, there is a hurricane and you have no internet access, you get sick, you have a car accident, etc...), completing the quiz, or any other problems after 5:00 p.m. on Thursday- NO PROVISIONS WILL BE MADE OR HELP PROVIDED TO ALLOW YOU EXTRA TIME OR HELP TO COMPLETE THE QUIZ.

I have a question about the Unit Quizzes, I read over the syllabus and the announcements on Canvas, but I'm not sure I quite understand. If the due date on a quiz is this upcoming Thursday at 5:00 p.m., but the quizzes are still open and I can still take the quizzes before 8am on Monday. Under my grades on Canvas it shows "late", is there a penalty for taking them after the due date? Please let me know! I'm sorry for the confusion! Sincerely, Student

Rules of the Discussion Board are: Discussion Board You must participate in the Discussion Board for each unit. You must read, analyze, and consider the posted topic. You can take the above quiz and/or survey as many times as you like before it is due in order to achieve a higher grade. Your grade will reflect your highest grade submission for the quiz and survey in each discussion board. It is only optional, but I encourage you to post thoughts, comments, or questions regarding the discussion board for others to read on the discussion board. If you don't participate in the Discussion Board for each unit as described above, you will not receive any points for that unit. There is not a discussion board assignment during the exam blocks. The Discussion Board in each unit is worth 20.84 points (10.42 points for each requirement). Each discussion board is due by 5:00 p.m. EST on Thursday as outlined in the schedule below. Students can ignore the "late submission" notices on their quizzes in their gradebook. It says this because the professor leaves the assignments open until Monday mornings at 8 a.m. (after the Thursday due date.) Students still get full points for their highest attempt, no matter when that attempt was made, so long as it was on or before the quiz closing dates on Monday mornings at 8 a.m.

Hi Professor, Regarding the past quizzes that have already been taken and graded..I wanted to go back and retake them to practice but they are not available anymore on blackboard. Can you please make them available to retake for practice when you get a chance? I would really appreciate it so that I can better prepare for the test Thanks, Student

Unfortunately, the quizzes will not be made available at this time. As stated in the directions for the unit quizzes: The quizzes will not be made available after they close. You must print them out or make notes if you wish to study from them at a later date

Are some of the answer options/responses to the email questions on this syllabus quiz to students that are asking for extra points for a higher letter grade at the end of the semester a little obnoxious?

Yes, and I (Professor Bailey) apologize to 97% of the students for the tone of the questions, but my real answer to all the type of questions was: "I'm sorry, but there are no additional points or extra credit at this time". I include these questions with the answers b/c I know that some professors "give" students points at the end of the semester, and a small percentage of students don't believe me when I tell them that there are no points "given" in my course at the end of the semester. I want that small percentage of students to actually believe what I am saying and earn the grade that will make them happy.
