Sacajawea
A Native American woman that helped Lewis and Clark on their exploration. She helped guide them through forests, mountains, and waterways.
New Orleans
A city in the state of Louisiana. New orleans was an important port city that is located on the Mississippi River and Gulf of Mexico. Many farmers lived in New Orleans and next to the Mississippi River.
Louisiana Purchase
A purchase of land that made the U.S double in size. Louisiana was sold by the French to the United States for 15 million dollars.
Mississippi River
A river that runs down the center of the United States. It is the largest river in our country. People used this river to ship crops and other trading items to others.
Lewis and Clark
Explorers that traveled through newly purchased Louisiana and traveled over 8,000 miles. Lewis and Clark traveled west all the way to the Pacific Ocean. They were the first to explore the western United States. They saw many new things.
Journal
Lewis and Clark kept a journal on their exploration. A journal is notebook of personal memoirs. Lewis and Clark wrote in their journal of new things that they saw.
What kind of things did Lewis and Clark see on their expedition?

Thomas Jefferson
The third president of the United States. Jefferson made the Louisiana purchase which doubled the size of the country
