Univariate study

only one variable is being studied

Categorical Variables

Ordinal, Nominal, Dichotomous, and Polychotomous

Non-experimental Variables

Predictor and Criterion Variables

Numeric Variables

Are variables with values that describe a measurable numerical quantity and answer the questions "how many" or "how much."

Numerical Variables

Continuous and Discrete Variables

Classifications of Variables

Numeric, Categorical, Experimental, Non- Experimental and Variables according to the number being studied

Categorical Variables

are variables with values that describe a quality or characteristics of a data unit like "what type" or which category."

Discrete Variables

ex: Number of registered cars, number of business locations, number of children in the family, population of students, population of students, and total number of faculty

Continuous Variables

ex: time, age, temperature, height, and weight

Dichotomous Variables

represent only two categories

Extraneous variables

these are also called mediating or intervening variables. (covariate variables)

Criterion Variables

these are usually influenced by the predictor variables

Polychotomous Variales

these are variables that have many categories

Nominal Variables

these are variables whose values cannot be organized in a logical sequence

Dependent Variables

these variables are usually affected by the manipulation of independent variables. (response or predicted variable)

Continuous Variables

these variables can assume any value between a certain set of real numbers. It is also called as Interval Variables

Ordinal Variables

these variables can take a value which can be logically ordered or ranked

Predictor Variables

these variables change the other variable/s in a non-experimental study

Bivariate study

two variables are being studied

Experimentalvariables

Emple: Use of Gardening Tools and Types of Fertilizer: Their Effects on the Amount of Harvest

Non-Experimental Variables

Ex: Competencies of Teachers and Students' Behavior in Selected Private Schools

Ordinal Variables

Ex: academic grade, clothing size, measures of attitudes like strongly agree etc.

Nominal Variables

Ex: business types, eye colors, kinds of religion, types of learners

Polychotomous Variales

Ex: educational attainment, level of performance

Dichotomous Variables

Ex: male and female, yes or no, true or false

Experimental Variables

Independent, Dependent, and Extraneous Variables

Independent Variables

These variables are usually manipulated in an experiment. (manipulated or explanatory)

Discrete Variables

These variables can only assume any whole value within the limits of the given variables

Variables according to the number being studied

Univariate, Bivariate, and Polyvariate study

Variable

is any factor or property that a researcher measures, controls, and/or manipulates

Polyvariate Study

more than 2 variables are being studied
