Chapter 7:Pelvis
The superior ramus of the pubic bone
Extends anteriorly from the body to the symphysis pubis
The Ramus of the ischium
Extends anteriorly, medially and upwards from the body
The inferior ramus of the pubis
Extends down from the lower end of the superior ramus, and joints of the ramus of the ischium
The body of the pubic bone
Forms the anterior one-fifth of the acetabulum and is continued anteriorly as the superior ramus
The body of the ischium
In addition to forming part if the acebtabulum, forms the inferior and psoterior part of the ischium
The acetabulum
Is a deep circular cup shaped depression on the lateral surface of the hip bone below its middle.
The acetabular notch
Is a gap on the inferior margin of the rim of the acetabulum
The obturator foremen
Is a large opening in the inferior part of the hip bone, between the pubis and ischium
The tuberosity of the ischium
Is a large rounded process on the posterior surface of the lower end of the body of the ischium
The spine of the ischium
Is a pointed process that extends dorsally and medially from the body of the ischium
The linea terminalis
Is a ridge of bone that begins at the upper margin of the symphysis pubis. It runs along the upper margin of the pubis.
The auricular surface
Is a rough, ear-shaped part posterior to thr iliac fossa that articulates with the upper lateral part of the sacrum
The pubic crest
Is a small ridge on the upper margin extending from the symphysis to the pubic tubercle
The pubic tubercle
Is a very small process on the superior margin of the pubic slightly lateral to the symphysis pubis
The inferior aperture of the pelvis
Is an opening at the lower end of the pelvis composed of the incomplete bony ring
The iliac fossa
Is the concave inner surface of the wing of the ilium
The pubic arch
Is the curved surface formed by the medial margins of both inferior rami of the pubic bones and the lower border of the symphysis pubis
The acetabular fossa
Is the flat central part of the acetabulum
The posterior superior spine of the ilium
Is the prominance at the posteriorend of the crest
The ala
Is the thin flattened upper part of the ilium above the body
The anterior inferior spine of the ilium
Lies on the anterior margin of the ala about one inch below the anterior superior spine.
The superior aperture of the pelvis
Pelvic rim, or inlet, is marked by the terminal line
The anterior superior spine
______________ of the ilium is the prominent anterior end of the iliac crest
The body
________________ of the ilium is the thickened part close to the acetabulum, of which it forms the upper two-fifths
The crest
_________________ of the ilium is the upper curved border of the ala
