Ms. Graff's classroom unfortunes. 4 school health concerns- student threw up in hallway, student rubbing her eye in class and it being pink, dispute between two students over who was taller, and sending only 5 students to get annual vision screenings. How written policies helped or hindered responsibilities of teacher- throwing up: the previous knowledge that the teacher obtained by the teachers in-service workshop on universal precautions helped her know what to do immediately in the throwing up incident and she knew how to handle blood and body fluids.(Took care of the situation safely and fast) Student rubbing eye- if there were posters or a requirement in the schools for the awareness for germs and bacteria residing in schools and how it could cause several health issues. The fact that there didnt seem to be anything like that in the classroom or system of schooling probably caused the student to contract the pink eye in the first place. A sign or something to educate people could have possibly prevented that students issue or could have made the issue to deal with much easier. Taller argument- the teachers way of handling the dispute with the two students was a good tactic to make sure no more disputes will come out again by them due to punishment, her skills in settling arguments for sure helped in this situation. Sending 5 students- the fact that only 5 students had the chance to get annual visions screenings isn't a super efficient way to regulate good health in schools. Policy should make it mandatory for all students to get annual vision screenings within the same time frame like making a week dedicated for students to come in and get the screenings and put a deadline on it to get everyone. That way it is done fast and efficiently and ensured that all students have it to maintain a fully healthy school. This 5 student release for annual vision screenings hinders for sure. Importance of teacher in making school health work-I think it is very important because the teachers can get another outlook and see some things administrators and a lot of others in the schools don't see with the students. They have a more personal relationship and could have potential new ideas and implementations to bring to the table regarding school health in students. These ideas and any potential extra knowledge to benefit school health could work and could help set options for coordinated school health.
