Vibrotactile Aides
aid that the vibration is felt through the skin (hand, wrist, stomach, back, arm), for a profound hearing loss. *increases speech reading abilities.
Behind the ear hearing aide (BTE)
aide worn behind the ear, for mild to profound hearing loss. Good for any age but best for children.
In the ear hearing aid (ITE)
fits comfortably in the outer ear and is good for a mild to severe hearing loss. worn by adults.
Retro cochlear Pathology
involves damage to the nerve fibers along the ascending auditory pathways from the internal auditory meatus to the cortex.
Mixed Hearing Loss
is a combination of conductive and sensorineural hearing loss, which means there is damage in both the outer or middle ear and in the inner ear. This type of hearing loss ranges in severity from mild to profound.
Auditory Processing Disorder
is a neurological condition that stems from problems in the auditory center of the brain.

-10-15 dB
normal hearing in dB
Conductive Hearing loss
occurs when there is a problem conducting sound waves anywhere along the route through the outer ear, tympanic membrane (eardrum), or middle ear (ossicles).
Sensorineural Hearing loss
occurs when there is damage to the inner ear (cochlea), or to the nerve pathways from the inner ear to the brain.
Canal Aides
small and fit in the ear canal. for mild to moderately severe hearing loss, good for adults.
Speech Reception Threshold
the lowest decibel level which a client can correctly identify a standard list of two syllable words (spondees) 50% of the time. * important speech audiometric finding
Speech Recognition Score
this score reveals the clients ability to recognize words. must repeat back words at a comfortable decibel level above their SRT.

what Tympanogram is flat? and what does it mean?
Tymp A, and normal pressure and compliance functions.
which tymp makes an even triangle and what does it mean?
Tymp C, possible Eustachian tube blockage or otitis media
which tymp peaks to negative side? what does it mean?
Body Aides
worn on the body and attached to a shirt or pocket. Connected to ear by wire, and for profound hearing loss. Worn when small ones cant be used.
