Conception, Pregnancy, and Birth Instruction
My boyfriend and I had been together for two years. When I got pregnant, I thought my boyfriend and I would be a family for our baby. After the baby was born, my boyfriend left. I see him occasionally, but he is not in our lives much. I'm lucky because my mom and dad are supportive of my son and me. I live with them, and they help pay for food, shelter, and some of the things we need. Having a baby affected my life so much. I can't do all the things I used to do like go to parties. I don't hang out with my friends anymore because I feel my obligation should be to my son. I don't even want to do those things, though, because I love spending time with him. I wanted to go to college to be a nurse, but I'm not going to school anymore—I don't have time. I plan to go back soon, but I'm not sure when. I didn't even graduate from high school. The hardest thing about being a mom is money. I used to think about buying shoes or new clothes. Now, I am just worried about buying diapers for the baby. My advice to others is to think about this and to be responsible if you decide to have sex. This is not what you want as a teenager. I love my son, but it's so hard. Some shows on TV focus on teen moms but they really only show the good side. There are good sides, but it's so much harder than what you see on TV. It's so hard every day. -Nissa, age 18 Which statements characterize Nissa's feelings about being a teen mom? Check all that apply.
