Tell me about your most/least successful UX design project. (What are your strengths as a designer)

Successful - creating a project that meets the metrics. Accomplishes the clients goals with conversion, usability reports. Agile metrics regarding the workflow of the team - Velocity, each of our deliverables were being met on the date that we agreed, each person was doing their part. Protego was the most successful project, because I was able to empathize with the employees who have a hard time using their platform thats intended to be organized and fluid in its navigation, so I can I get in the mind of their team and come up with ideas to display in a intuitive way what they need

Tell me about some of your favorite examples of good UX.

Yelp and hotels.com (one mobile app and one website) Yelp's mobile app has done a great job of showing its users that its not just a food delivery or restaurant reviews app, you can look a multitude of services through yelp and find recommendations on those varieties. A huge part of the app is personalization, which is very common now in modern design where you can structure your experience to how you want with your own collections and bookmarks, etc. I touched on hotels.com a little before but to reiterate my points, the experience of finding a hotel room and then booking one is so easy and fast, anyone can do it fairly quickly! You can filter your search options through price, amenities, ratings, etc. The experience is very seamless!

Where do you find inspiration?

How do you respond to negative feedback?

(It would be good if I could talk about negative feedback from stakeholders or my team about my work) As a designer I want to keep an open mind when it comes to feedback. I understand that while I can explain why I did what I did, and it gets pushback, the work belongs in an open space for input and my work isn't final. Its constantly being iterated. For example, when I was working on my interak project, my first design iteration didn't look modern, it wasn't nearly as visually appealing as the stuff that you see today, so i had to re-do the entire thing and so I was grateful for the honest feedback because it made my work better. And also its important to note that I wasn't attached to my work so receiving feedback is of course not a personal attack but is aimed to make a product better and so I like to be non-attached to my work. I create a very detailed developer handoff file that includes annotations explaining the function of each screen, each button, how components should work and how users travel through the screensBy creating reusable components, I make it easier and faster for developers to develop the designIn the handoff file, I am trying to answer any questions a developer could have before they have them. I am also trying to convey design language that the developer understands bridging the gap of communication While designing, I also make sure to attach every color and text used to a specific style, helping the developers easily and efficiently transfer them during development Communication during the design phase is also very important. The client is in charge of their own development team, so i make sure to understand any design constraints and design with those in mind

Walk me through your workflow (process)

Client project -> discovery phase, ideate, design, test & validate, handoff With a client project it always starts with a discover phase where we first meet the client, we talk about their company and what they're looking for, why they're looking for it, and overall get an understanding of where they're coming from. These initial meetings always lead to gathering requirements and user stories for what the platform needs. for example, with protego, the client told us that he needed a redesign of his back office platform for his team because he believed the platform to have bad ux and not all that helpful in organizing their clients information. And he told us what pages are needed and what information has to go within each page, and so we were like okay we need to validate the clients claims through techniques like Heuristic Evaluation or Usability Testing, and if they do validate the client's claims then we can proceed to the ideation stage where we focus on information architecture and mapping the user's experience, and then we move on to design where we create low-mid-high fidelity work on Figma and communicate our deliverables to the client!

Tell me about yourself.

I actually got interested in UX first when I went into therapy. I realized that the sharing of information between myself and the other was quite cathartic and wanted to find a career where I can people's atitudes towards a certain problem in their life and come up with a creative solution. Through some research on google I evenutally found UX. I then joined a ux design club that was on my college campus and through that I first got introduced to it. Learned fundamentals and then after I finished my undergrad I decided to take a bootcamp where I made my first design project with being mentored. Then I got opportunities with a design agency called Moment Studio from 2021- to the end of 2022 where I worked with small design teams designing interfaces for startups and small businesses which consisted of Saas fintech and health & wellness platforms. I also had internship at a startup called Nutripair in 2021 where I was the sole designer creating wireframes, userflows and prototypes for a company centered around personalized grocery shopping! And right now, I want to my next opportunity to be at a bigger company where I can see the product grow over time!

What is the difference between UX and UI?

The UX is the structure and strategy of getting the users to accomplish certain goals, and UI is the visual representation of that through the use of visual hierarchy, color, alignment, spacing, typography and also the use of graphic elements such as animation or illustrations, the interactions between each screen. Both UX and UI serve the greater purpose of creating a memorable experience for the user and I will like to add that without a good UI, the UX can't be across as visually appealing, so less likely the user will not come back to the product if its not a delightful experience.

Do you have any questions?

The main point of an interview is for a company to determine whether you're a good fit for a role. But that goes both ways. This is your chance to explore whether the company is a good fit for you. Demonstrate your interest in the company and the job by asking two or three questions. You can prepare some questions ahead of time, but don't be afraid to ask questions that may have come up during the interview process. Topics to inquire about might include the company culture, team structure, and business goals.

What is UX design

To me ux is about creating meaningful experiences for its users to accomplish goals through an interface. It's about empathizing with the attitudes and needs of the users and creating something that solves a problem that stems from these attitudes and needs. Good ux creates platforms that are easy to use and understand which shows value to people who may want to use the platform again in the near future. For example, booking a hotel room on hotels.com is very fast and seamless. The site shows the user all the information they need to quickly make the decision of booking a room, and because of that, users are drawn to using hotels.com again and again for the seamless experience! There are many methods to make sure an experience is good for its users such as user research, user flows, usability testing

What kind of research methods do you use? (How did you decide to take which method)

User interviews, Competitive analysis, surveys, user testing, heuristic evaluation. Depending on the project and the scope that is provided, I will take a personalized approach to understanding who the audience is and major insights they can provide on a topic. User interviews with interak to match the secondary research that you got from reading, talking to real students was beneficial in understanding the thinking behind these issues. User Testing with interak to validate the designs to see whether or not they worked as they were intended. Competitive Analysis with Nutripair to understand the food app marketplace, what did people of the other apps, what were their features and what could we do better than them! Surveys is a precursor to interview to weed out people who would actually be in the user base for the product... Heuristic Evaluation to test usability of a current platform, I made use of this with protego and I did this instead of usability testing to quickly validate the clients claim of having bad usability with no implementation of the heuristic principles

How would you improve the UX of our product?

What they're really asking: Have you done your research? It's always a good idea to read up on the company you're applying to ahead of your interview. This demonstrates your interest in this company and this role as opposed to any other UX designer job. Take some time to explore the company's products. Browse their website. Use their app if they have one. Think about what works and what could be improved. Pick one or two examples, and come up with a sample plan of action. Remember to mention the company's target users and the type of research you might conduct when enhancing an existing design. The point here isn't to bash your potential employer but to offer a preview of the value you'd bring to the company.
