That the lyrics within the music video shows the message that we have to address the issue of groups of people who are seen as being marginalization and come up with a solution, a compromise, that will benefit them and as well as Americas.

1

A text, more of pop culture production that I would add to the Critical reading syllabus is a YouTube video that is a remix of the song "Yorktown" from "Hamilton: An American Musical."

8

Between the World and Me and Immigrants is that both texts address the issue of achieving the "American Dream", Coates addresses is that to achieve the American Dream is for the dreamers. Individuals who buy into the Dream and it's an ideology, speaks on the truth behind the American dream stating; "the movement: to awaken the Dreamers, to rouse them to the facts of what their need to be, to talk, and to think that they are white".

13

Finally, "Immigrants (We Get The Job Done)" should be added into university-level critical reading classes, along with any class that speaks on human diversity in the world because it addresses the realities that many nonwhite individuals are facing when seeking asylum, a new life here in America. That it addresses a touchy topic today about illegal and legal "immigrants" about what is happening to them and what is the reaction from Americans.

5

Hence, leading into our discussion held in class, our readings from The Mountain, Between the World and Me, and Zong all have a representation into the song their selves.

7

However, Clare wants us to change these "negative" names into positive language. In the song "Immigrants", the message behind the lyrics is wanting to change the meaning of the word immigrant and turn it into something positive.

10

However, in reality, that is not the truth, the term prenup, symbolizes that for the people who are fleeing their countries and or coming over legally, have a signed paper, referred to as a green card, represents different reasons to why people traveling from home to be able to acquire work or usually education for their children. Although some are here by legal the American system still withholding freedom and benefits from immigrants causes the lack of formality of what immigrants are going through.

11

Lastly the reading from Zong, the verse; "Don't think I didn't notice those tombstones disguised as waves" refers to how in Zong Phillips depicted slavery, and how Africans Americans were taken from their homes, by boat. Zong tells the story of a cargo ship, that was made up of slaves, in closed areas which caused many issues of overpopulation, which caused a lack of food and diseases and many deaths.

4

Other than visual respiration of the song, the lyrics carry a large amount of weight towards addressing issues that are occurring in society along with many different rap lines that carry out many subliminal messages, thus, I recommend watching the video with captions on.

6

The connection between The Mountain and Immigrants is the first lines that are spoken from the music video: "It's astonishing that in a country founded by immigrants, the word immigrant has somehow become a bad word". This relates to how in the Mountain, Clare writes about stereotypes were created within society and are seen as slurs.

3

The music video Immigrants has the ability as it being a music video and not just a set of lyrics to capture our course's theme, also addressed the sets of stereotypes that people face. As well as pointing out past and current events that are occurring in society today and allow the viewer to gain a new perspective.

12

Thus, stating this led to the crewmen of the ship throwing over people, dead or alive, into the sea in cargo crates. That the knowledge of this verse of what has happened in the past that it's not going to be an easy life either having traveled over to American with it being unwilling by force or willing to seek asylum or a better life for your children.

2

Which was renamed, to: "Immigrants (We Get The Job Done)." The remix is a music video that addresses the insight of how America views immigrants and perpetuates a new positive attitude towards immigrants through a six-minute long rap/hip music video.

9

While as the first line of rap lyrics from Immigrants is "And we all came America trying to get a lap dance from Lady Freedom...But now Lady Liberty is acting like Hilary Banks with a prenup"( K'naan). This line carries significant because the ideal dream of America is that everyone is free and is welcome and is equal.
