$105k. I doubt they'll want to pay this much for the position. Range is from $62000 to $135000. $105k is around the middle of this range.

Describe current position as a Data Engineer at Ryan?

3 Types of Data Pipelines: 1 - pipelines that process the different types of data we receive from different counties. Read in txt, csv, Excel, Microsoft Access files and enter them in our databases. Hundreds of different tables. Level 1 Processing. Prevalidation checks. 2 - create insert scripts in MySQL that standardize Level 1 data and insert them into our client databases. 2 tables, 1 for bills and one for assessments. Joins from many different tables. 3 - create scripts using Python, MySQL, and Selenium WebDriver that scrape bills and assessments from websites. Download HTMLS (or PDFs) and write scripts that extract the data from those files and insert into our client databases.

When are you available to start?

3 weeks after receiving offer (hopefully first week of May for us).

Job requirements for Data Specialist position at Crowe?

Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases. Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement. Strong analytic skills related to working with structured and semi-structured datasets. Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management. A successful history of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets. Strong project management and organizational skills. Probably may ask, why finance? Why?

I am interested in breaking into finance, because in my current position, I've been able to track different financial performance metrics in regards to our deliverables. Which has included extracting financial information from documents of different projects, including budget alotted, revenue generated, etc. I want to take what I've learned in regards to finance a step further in my current position, combine that with my data engineering experience, and help generate client deliverables related to tax data. Alternatively, I see this position as an opportunity to grow my data engineering skillset in order to have a greater impact on the generation of quality client deliverables to help them make informed business decisions.

Why are you leaving this position?

I am interested in pursuing opportunities to grow my data engineering skillset in the tax and accounting sphere as it relates to SQL and creating data pipelines to influence business decisions.

What is your experience with MySQL?

I have experience writing SQL queries to join multiple tables at a time.

Over the past few years, I have gained a solid data analytics/data engineering skillset, being exposed to different technologies such as R, Python, and MySQL. And I have a wide experience preparing, analyzing, and processing data of various files and sizes, for generating reports and client deliverables. With my data engineering in the tax realm and client facing experience, I believe that I would be a valuable member to Ryan's team and contribute to the improvement of customers' everyday lives.

What do you think will be a challenge at the beginning this job?

I would say the challenge would be getting acquainted Crowe's technology stack as they are used for generating client deliverables to different stakeholders at Crowe.

Tell me about yourself?

My name is Ryan, and I majored in Biology during my undergrad. I didn't get into programming until my senior year, and that is what led me to the tech side of biology. Since then, I have gained a solid analytics skillset, using R, and Python to extract and manipulate data. In the past year or so, I have used these languages, as well as SQL in a more data engineering context, developing pipelines to automate the processing of large files at a time to generate client deliverables. For the next steps in my career, I want to build upon my data engineering skills to continue to generate high quality client deliverables that can help them make informed business decisions.

How large are the tables you deal with/manipulate?

Range anywhere from 50000 entries, to greater than 100,000.

This is full time position, correct?

Reason I ask is because resume says Time Commit 50-100%, 20-40 hours a week.

Who are we interviewing with?

Do you have experience with property tax data?

Yes I do. I have experience with maintaining pipelines in R, Python, and SQL that are used to process tax data files of several GB, and I believe that skillset will directly be transferrable to Crowe's team.
