Dense Connective Tissue

Connective tissue with large amounts of either collagen fibers (making them strong) or elastic fibers, or both. Dense tissues are typically strong (e.g. bone, cartilage, tendons, etc.)

Appocrine Sweat Glands

Odiferous sweat glands in axilla, pubic region and areola. Secretory and duct portion, both are coiled. Single layer of cuboidal to columnar secretory cells, surrounded by myoepithelial cells. ducts empty into hair follicles.

Arrector Pili Muscle

Tiny smooth involuntary muscle, attached to hair follicle and dermal papillae and cotracts when cold or frightened and produces goosebumps

Sebaceous Gland

a structure in the dermis of the skin from which a strand of hair grows

Lymphatic Vessel

a vascular duct that carries lymph which is eventually added to the venous blood circulation

Receptor

an organ having nerve endings (in the skin or viscera or eye or ear or nose or mouth) that respond to stimulation

Nerve

any bundle of nerve fibers running to various organs and tissues of the body

Sweat Gland

any of the glands in the skin that secrete perspiration

Subcutaneous Tissue

connective and adipose tissue layer just under the dermis

Reticular Layer

most numerous, important, and wide spread of the sweat glands, mostly on forehead, upper lip, palms and soles, not hair follicles, regulate temperature,

outer layer of the dermis, directly beneath the epidermis
