Different Signs / for physical assessment
Lachman Test
ACL stability / injury / performed at 30 degree flexion with anteriorly directed force to the proximal tibia while the opposite hand stabilizes the thigh.
Phalen test
Carpal tunnel syndrome - Flex wrists maximally / hold for 60 second + = numbness / tingling of fingers.
Tinel's sign
Carpal tunnel syndrome - tap over median nerve of wrist + = pain numbness in median nerve
Ortolani Test
Hip dysplasia - infant supine on flat surface. Grasp thigh with middle finger over greater trochanger. Flex thigh 90 degrees, abduct & externally rotate hip + = palpable click
Barlow test
Hip dysplasia / infant supine on flat surface. Flex hips and adduct, internally rotate hips += palpable click in hip (done with Ortolani).
Chvostek's sign
Hypocalcemia- tap facial nerve at jaw +=twitching of facial muscles.
Bulge Sign
Knee Swelling / effusion - Knee extended, apply pressure with left hand above knee milking fluid down. + = fluid wave of bulge on medial side between patella and femur
McMurray Test
Meniscal injury / knee. Patient supine. Flex knee, rotate lower leg internally / external. Push on lateral side for valgus stress. + = click/pop along medial joint or leg extension.
Chandelier's sign
Pelvic inflammation / palpation of cervix += cervical tenderness when cervix moved.
Chadwick's sign
Pregnancy / speculum exam of cervix. Cervix soft, blue
Simmonds Test
Ruptured Achilles tendon / squeeze calf as patient lies prone with feet dangling = + absence of foot movement.
Adam's test
Spinal scoliosis / examiner stands behind patient / slow bend forward / touches toes, and then slow rise to look for unevenness to the scapula / curvature of spine.
Cremasteric reflex
Testicular torsion / light stroke of medial thigh causes contraction of cremaster muscle-pulls up the testis on side stroked. Absent in testicular torsion / L1-L2 injury)
