C. The most common cause of airway obstruction is the tongue and/or soft tissues of the upper airway. No other adjuncts may be necessary for initial management except relieving the obstruction with airway repositioning. This should certainly be the first step, and there is no need to wait for the code cart before performing this maneuver.
