Blake can be considered the "father figure" to Romanticism because he began writing about romantics before its era. His paintings and poetry have been characterized as the Pre-Romantic movement. This shows his style started the movement.

The following quote is from Blake's "Auguries of Innocence." Discuss imagery and the use of other poetic devices Blake uses to convey meaning. "To see the world in a grain of sand And heaven in a wild flower, Hold infinity in the palm of your hand, And eternity in an hour."

Blake uses imagery, visual symbolism, to make our lives seem much smaller and that were in control. He uses metaphors as well. For example, the world becoming a grain of sand, and infinity in the palm of our hand.

Byron uses similes, expresses the setting of the poem, and allusion. The simile is used to explain what Byron thinks pf this girl. The setting is what the girl is like. Byron explains she's like a starry night. Allusion is the connection between this girl and heaven. He explains how she's so pure like heaven.

One not so obvious similarity in British and American Literature is that both tend to use the same characteristics to help advance their writing. A major difference between British and American Literature is that British Literature tends to be written by British citizens and American Literature is written by United States citizens.

Romantic poetry is the generally about self-expression. -It is more about how the poet views things and their feelings that matter. -William Wordsworth is an example of this type of writing. -This differs from predecessors in traditional British Literature because traditional British Literature explores scientific truth and is less emotional and less about the writer. -Romanticism is still impactful to this day because it changed how people view art, music, and literature.

Some themes present in contemporary culture that can be traced back to early British Literature is Heroism. In contemporary culture, superheroes and expressions of bravery are very popular still to this day. One of the original stories of heroism is Beowulf.

William uses personification in the beginning of his poem to express excitement. He explains his excitement over when he see's a rainbow and whether he's 2 or 100 he's still going to get excited when he see's a rainbow. He also uses a hyperbole explaining how he's die if it meant he wouldn't get excited over a rainbow.

The effects of World War 1 shaped the literature of their generation, Modernist Movement. This movement was to go in the opposite direction from traditional literature and express themselves in new ways.
