Typically the holiday begins Jan 20th and Feb 20th it lasts 2 weeks, until the first full moon, but in America is usually celebrated for only 3 days. In this novel, Tet arrives on Valentine's Day. This holiday is the biggest event for the Vietnamese and Chinese.

The Vietnamese believe they are the descendates of a dragon (lac-long-quan) and a fairy princesss (au-co). Vietnamese children are reminded that the blood of a dragon flows through their veins and on the inside they have the heart and soul of a dragon. The Viet. are taught to be brave, strong and wife and at times will be called upon to make sacrificies. Danny therefore has the blood of a dragon in his veins and is to act as such.
