Among the studies that had been conducted, the review concluded that there were no differences in rates of infection or healing with use of tap water versus sterile saline win the cleansing of wounds. - However, few of the studies that had been done involved the use of childcare, and most had been conducted in health-care settings. - The nurses decided to initiate a new study to gather more focused and informative evidence about the effects of saline solution versus tap water in cleansing children's wounds.

Rogers' Theory of Diffusion of Innovations
